I got some normal questions for someone thats used a MPC Ren

K, so I've had the mpc1000, 2500 both with jjos. I loved it, but had to take a move to maschine in time. I saw that Maschine dropped 2.0 and the Studio or whatever. Looks like a decent machine, i just definitely find it faster to make beats on an mpc though. i don't care about flashy colours and all that.

My questions:

Is there automation within the mpc software?

Does it work well with ableton? or do you guys just export your stems and drop them in and finish it up in ableton?

I really like the mpc style pads, and the workflow. I hear theres a sound card issue of some sort so that i couldn't play my iTunes and computer programs using the mpc's sound card. so how does that work for if I i wanted to start a loop in ableton and just bang out a beat? would i have to change the audio settings? like could i send the audio from the npc to go out my macbook pro? just curious.

A massive limitation with the mpc ren vst plugin is that it isn't multitimbral yet.. (hopefully in the future)
You can have ableton sequence the mpc software (abletons midi triggering pgms in the mpc) via midi channels. ie you can assign midi channels to each pgm/track in the mpc software so that different midi tracks in ableton can trigger them..

But you could certainly have audio loops in ableton, and then use the mpc software /ren to sequence and make the beats. You just have to sequencers to look at.. (mpc ren software and the ableton software)

The mpc ren's audio interface can be used with itunes and other programs.. You just have to tell the programs to use it in their respective device audio settings...

Also If you have mavericks the rens audio driver isn't officially supported...

Thanks dazastah. That definitely helps. I'm still curious about automation as that's definitely important. I do want to go to the ren and ditch those maschine pads and sequencer. Thanks for all the help dude.

you can automate but not everything, its kind of limited right now, you can't automate a whole program at once(unless its a key group), you can't automate fx but they are adding that next update. It's not like in the maschine where pretty much everything can be automated, hopefully soon.

Maybe go for the mpc, especially since you like the sequencer and the workflow better

i went machine after 3000, 2000, and 2KXL. and the first thing about the machine that will be wack to you is the entire work flow. is like building legos. the ten has a couple things they need to square up. but the work flow is there. what your used to is there with extra bells and whistles. {VST ins. and efx}. and we have been real heavy on the alai team. most of us in here don't let those guys sleep. the moment they do something we are tearing it apart. we ARE ALL their beta testers. so although there have been a couple rocks in road they are coming around.

when i first copped machine it was far from bug free. stick with the mp man.
