MPC Ren To Mackie 1402 VLZ3 Mixer Anomoly.

I just purchased a Mackie mixer and am trying to route my sounds from the Ren to the mixer..

My connections as follows:

Mpc Ren Stereo Out to Alt 3-4 Ins on mixer

Mpc Ren Assignable Mix Out to Ch Line In 13-14 on mixer..

When I assign a sound to route to 13, 14 on the Ren.. I get no feedback from the mixer. I have the Line In 13-14 button depressed and the Mute Alt 3-4 button depressed on the 13-14 channel.

Any ideas as to the error here? Spent a lot of time tinkering with this mixer and perhaps its time to let the mind take a rest.

i think that the alt 3.4 are outs , no ins

have you tried other any other inputs to see if u can get a signal from the assignable mix out

Weird.. if I plug the cables, from assignable mix, in to line in 1 and line in 2 of the mixer - and set the routing in the mpc software to out 1, and out 2 - I can hear the assigned outs via the alt 3-4 submix but still can not control the channel for line in 1 and line in 2.

Whereas if I have the cables in line in 13-14 and routing to out 13,14 in the mpc ren.. I get no sound from the channel nor sound in the alt 3-4 submix.

Furthermore.. I unplugged the cables from line in 1 and line in 2 but still kept the out 1, out 2 set in the mpc software.. and still had sound play back

I tried plugging the assignable mix cables in to other channels also.. and set the respective routing in the mpc software.. still no sound.. im stumped..

Why are you using the Alt output 3/4 of the Mackie, why not the Control Room L/R output?

Why are you using the Assignable Mix Out 1/2 of the Renaissance, why not the main Stereo Out L/R?

What are your speakers plugged into?

You don't have 14 assignable audio outputs in the MPC Renaissance, you only have 2.

What assignable mix outputs are the cables plugged into on the Renaissance? That is what you set the outputs to in MPC Software, not to the channel input numbers of the Mackie that you are plugging the other end of the cables into.

Where were Stereo Out L/R and Assignable Mix Out 1/2 on the Renaissance plugged into?

It doesn't matter to MPC Sofware and MPC Renaissance which inputs you plug the cables into on your mixer, within MPC Software, you are setting the audio outputs that the sound will go out of from the MPC Renaissance, you are not setting the audio channel input numbers to your mixer from within MPC Software.

You only have 4 audio outputs from the MPC Renaissance.

You send the audio output to either the MPC Renaissance main Stereo Out L/R or to the MPC Renaissance Assignable Mix Out 1/2, then you plug those MPC Renaissance outputs into whatever mixer channel inputs you want to use, with an audio cable, you do not set the mixer channel numbers within MPC Software.

A quote from this tutorial: "The subgroup (ALT 3-4) connects to the soundcard line in."

I understand I had the wrong hook up between my mixer and the Ren.. I had stereo out on ren to alt 3/4.. I corrected this by having Ren stereo out to mackie stereo return.

Now, am I understanding this correctly? Wont alt 3/4 allow me to route whatever channel I have set so I can control the pan, eq, gain, from the mixer. Where would I connect the alt 3/4 output on the mixer in to the Ren? It says to connect alt 3/4 to line in from mixer to soundcard (ren) and press the mute alt 3/4 button on a channel to route channel to soundcard.

I am a noob and I am just learning.. bare with me

OK, in that tutorial, substitute the MPC Rec In Left/Right and MPC Stereo Out L/R out for the soundcard input and soundcard output.

So, connect...

- MPC Stereo Out L/R into a stereo mixer channel (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, or 13-14) or a pair of mono mixer channels (panned hard left/right)
- mixer Control Room L/R outputs into speakers
- mixer Alt Output 3-4 into MPC Rec In Left/Right (set to Line)

- MPC Assignable Mix Out 1/2 into a stereo mixer channel or a pair of mono mixer channels

- any other sound sources, such as a DJ mixer, microphone, CD player, external MIDI synths/samplers/etc, external effects units, etc., into stereo or mono mixer channels


This allows anything going through a mixer channel to normally be sent to the speakers, through the control room output and volume control, so you can listen to it.

When you want to record something from the mixer into the MPC, you press the Mute/Alt 3-4 button on the mixer channel(s) you want to record, it is muted from the control room output/speakers, and it is sent to the MPC Rec In Left/Right inputs, so that you can record it.

Be careful pressing the Mute/Alt 3-4 button on the mixer channel for the MPC, as that will send the output of the MPC into the input of the MPC, and you will get a feedback loop.


The MPC Assignable Mix Out 1/2 outputs can be used to send signals out of the MPC separately to your main MPC stereo output. You might do this so that you can send some sounds through their own mixer channel, and/or through their own external effects, or for a click track for a headphone send to performers, as a couple of examples.
