Effects hardware for the MPC2000xl

Ive got a mpc2000xl and dont want to get the eb16 coz its expensive and ive heard its shit.
What would be a good replacement for the EB16?
A multitrack with effects, 8outs or midi to cubase with plugins?
(i wanna keep my shit pretty grimey also)

do you have the 8 outs expansion ? if so any multi effect rack should do the job ( the eb 16 is outdated versus anything from past 4 years , the only good point for it is the mixer with it individual effect send ) .

I don't think it's that expensive. You can cop one for $150-280 on e-bay. When I first got mines I though it was a piece of sh*t. But as I started f*cking with it and setting my own parameters I discovered, in my opinion, how good the card really is. To each his own tho'. I like it and haven't been compelled to buy any other effects gear. It fits my needs.

So, would there be much of a difference in the EB16 effects compared to the same effects using cubase?
I'm just trying to work this out, because if you hooked to mpc to cubase, you have unlimited amounts of effects,etc.

One advantage of the effects board is that it is inside your MPC. You don't need an extra power supply, cables & a mixer for it. It is fine to use a computer sequencing package to add effects to your MPC, but what do you do if you need those exact same effects in another studio or playing live?

I don't have the effects board because I've got a big studio space & my MPC doesn't leave it, but it depends on your situation. If you don't have it you really need the 8 outs board though.

Yes you can. The point I was making is: the EB16 is inside your MPC, so no extra power supply, cables, mixer or desk space is needed. If you take your MPC to another studio you still have those effects.
If your effects are done in a computer & you need to take your MPC to another studio or do a live show, are you going to take your computer along with you? It was just an issue to think about if you need to be portable.
