mackie onyx audio interface + seperate midi interface

I have a Mackie Onyx 820i Firewire Interface, which has no MIDI. If I were to buy a separate MIDI Interface, would the PC/DAW recognize both at the same time? Or would I need an interface with both analog inputs/outputs + MIDI I/O... all in the same device?

Your PC/DAW will recognize the MIDI interface apart from your interface.

For a while I was running a bedroom setup of MPC >> Zoom H4 (for audio) and a hyper-generic USB-to-MIDI device that I ordered off of eBay for like $8 and it works flawlessly syncing up Logic 9 and the MPC together.

As long as you make sure to tell your computer/DAW to use your audio interface for audio and tell it to use your MIDI interface for MIDI... it should all work smoove.
