Heading to Beijing, Any advice for record shopping?

Heading to Beijing in May, just doing some research into record stores over there. Going to try and map out my record store excursions to work with what the misses has planned. Any body had the chance to dig over there? any words of advice digging in a foreign place and not having a grasp on the language whatsoever?

As a Chinese,though I do not live in Beijing,I know one record shop named fusheng record shop,福声唱片. Chinese famous hip hop group in3's record you can find there.If you want some classic Chinese instrument sound or samples ,there bookstore can the cd is record by traditional Chinese instrument. Vinyl record is not universal in Chinese.

I can translate the location in your ways,just google it, you will find it.
Maybe you can find inspiration in Beijing Opera.
In Beijing , there are some great MCs, MC Nasty Ray,MC Webber.There are also some great beatmakers,Fac D12,DJ Wordy(in3's producer).

Hey Shin-P, welcome to the forums. If you don't mind me asking, but what do they call funk, blues, psych and jazz type of music in China? Or is it all categorized as western pop?

We categorize them clearly,but a lot of old Chinese call them western pop.Young people can categorized it clearly.

Oh, haha! Yeah I figured the younger generation know their genres. Thanks for that. Some countries do categorize the music into western pop, I was curious about China.

But in China,if younger generation didnt receive a good education, a good music education, they cannot understand why western music,they always listen the songs that i cannot sleep if listen them, stuck in my head.
A lot of good Chinese indie musicians are studying in western counties,Germany,French,UK,US,Japan.They get high level education.

And we cannot use facebook,youtube,Vinyl is rare.The softwares are expensive, we always use pirate logic pro x, cubase , reason.Few people pay for music.
And I really wanna a legal copy logic pro x,but i can afford it.I also don't know where I can find the samples,dope VST plugs.
I knew some beatmakers there,but they don't wanna help me.So sad.

Sorry,I only know is fusheng,and i know every beijing hip hop artist just go to fusheng record,if you wanna a good trip,you must get connect with some beijing local mcs or beatmakers.I can help you.
Beijing's traditional Chinese culture is about "Qing" Dynasty, go thru the Hutong 胡同，eat beijing traditional food, Beijing roast duck, view ancient architecture.
I always get old samples by 1900s old school Shanghai records and 1980s Taiwan records.
Some traditional Chinese drum samples you can find on the internet.
You must connect with the local people.And I will ask my Beijing friends to get more information.

Wow, did not think it was that strict in China. If you guys had youtube, it would be a whole new world of music for you to explore. Thanks for the outlook over there.

Those 1900 records are pretty good, I have a tape and the music sounds like acoustic electronica

How is the scene in Hong Kong? I would think Hip Hop strives over there. Sorry for asking so many questions but I dig the chinese culture and the info we have is really old and outdated. I can point out a few americans who think the Great Wall was built last week
