Do you want true 96ppqn on the Ren/Studio?

Currently I am told the sequencer is stuck in 960ppq mode no matter what. Even though we are able to change the resolution of the sequencer to 96ppqn I am told it's only for show or visual purposes. It does not function like true 96ppq and still corresponds to a 960ppqn grid. This is not true 96ppq.

Currently if you set the sequencer to 96ppq, If you want to shift a note "10" I have to dial in "100" which makes no sense! It's as if it's still on 960ppq. 100 SHOULD shift my note 96 plus 4, which is a quarter note plus 4. But 100 only shifts a mere 10 to the right. Sometimes I prefer working in 96ppqn and I would rather the sequencer and these parameters function like it's 96ppq and not 960 when I switch the resolution.

I wonder if the 96ppqn only applies to recorded notes/events..(it autoqunatizes to 96, but when you nudge and edit it's always 960)
It's probably something they need to fix rather than purposely designed...
IT's doesn't bother me really.. But it should be how you want it i think...

Not only does shift timing not work accurately in 96ppqn mode, It seems after these findings that switching the sequencer resolution to 96ppqn is purely illusion, and the sequencer is actually in 960ppqn all the time, so why is it advertised that the sequencer can run in 96ppqn when it's purely for display purposes??? Was 96ppqn intended to be only for visual purposes? Because I thought the sequencer would literally change to 96ppqn. Apparently not.

If I understood right, 96PPQN was released for visual purposes for now, but it should be in proper use in future updates and improvements.

Can someone write a simple explanation about the difference between these two settings (if they were working properly)? Is another one better in some situation and so on. Isn't more accurate always better?

bug submit..... Or feature update... 96 ppqn should be fixed so that all editing(shift timing nudging) is locked to 96ppqn..

96 pulses per quarter note compared to 960 pulses per quarter note...

So when grid or tc is off this is the grid it works to..

So between each 1 2 3 4 there are 96 step edits you can fit before the next quarter note.

In theory you can get the same result from 960 ppqn it's just that the nudging and shifting would be quicker... (especially with tc off)

Hope this is not the case for the unified mixer ... in the next update... :Sigh: Anyways i may of just found a better way to mix with still keeping the mpc the master sequencer.... With metering.... using jack osx...

Sure

NO SETTING in the quantize menu adjusts notes according to 96 ppqn. Everything in the quantize menu operates a 960 ppqn. This is how it was designed.

"Nudge" is NOT the Shift Timing feature in the quantize menu. They are two completely separate features.

*Shift Timing is done through the quantize menu. This is NOT nudging.
*Nudge is done from the left/right arrow keys on your computer keyboard. This is NOT shift timing.

And now there is a new list editor in 1.6 that lets you Nudge notes from the hardware, which you could NOT do before 1.6.

With that said, 96 ppqn is not just for show. It is STRICTLY for NUDGING, not for Shift Timing, not for quantizing, not for sequencing.

96 is not tighter than 960. With 96, you can only move notes at a minimum of 10 ppqn at a time. So 1 nudge = 10 ppqn. 960 is 10x finer that 96, so that same single nudge at 96 ppqn is equal to 10 nudges at 960, which allows you to get notes much tighter and in the pocket than 96 ppgn. Every MPC has been 960, except maybe the MPC 60 I believe.

No, only the 4K and 5K have been 960 ppq. Other models were all 96 ppq.

And some of you guys here are complaining because nudging works 960 PPQN? Why wouldn't you want to nudge as accurate as possible?

EDIT: I'm not saying this shouldn't be a setting and a possibility. I'm just curious to know how this is helpful for you guys.

yep I only nudge when i really need to.. I mostly just play it in without tc on... so this isn't really affecting me.. I'd rather have a finer detail of nudging though... What would be good is a shift nudge feature Where nudge without shift is 96 ppqn, and with shift held nudge works at 960 .?

Shift + Nudge is already taken. It's used to nudge notes off the grid when quantize is turned on.

All I know is when you shift a note in 96ppq it moves farther per tick and the change in timing is more audible to the ear because the fact that the sequencer is at lower resolution. I rarely ever need a resolution higher than 96ppqn. I don't need a resolution that fine even though it's great to have by default, my ear just can't hear the difference between 2 ticks at 960ppq, thats all.

Note sure why I like to record in 96ppq, or anyone else for that matter who ever used an mpc60, mpc3000, mpc2500, mpc1000, mpc2000, etc...Because all those were 96ppq. Why don't you ask people who still use those machines to this day why they like working on 96ppq?

Neither is more "tighter" or "accurate" than the other. It's really just a matter of the sequencer being at a lower resolution. Also a matter of preference.

I am not talking about nudge, I never once said the words Nudge or Nudging notes or whatever. I am strictly talking about Shift timing in T.C. window when the sequencer is set to 96ppqn

Its simple.

96ppqn is for those wack at timing and can feel good that they know what they doing.

960Ppqn is a man's timing and those that are skilled in making beats.

If you prefer 96ppqn then your timing game aint all that, sorry.
