It is misleading, with the setting being located in the Preferences/Sequencer section, and being called Pulse Resolution.
The version 1.5 MPC User Guide does state that it does not affect the sequencer timing, though gives no detail of where it is used...
Pulse Resolution: Click this drop-down menu to select the display resolution (in PPQN—pulses per quarter note) of pulse values in certain areas of the software. Please note that this setting affects the display resolution, not the software's timing
I am not really sure why a 96ppqn nudge is of use in an otherwise 960 ppqn sequencer, it would make more sense to me if everything was in 96ppqn when you set the sequencer pulse resolution to 96ppqn.
What is the point of it, as is?

A sequencer based on 96ppqn is tighter, it has more of a standard quantize than one based on 960ppqn, so 96ppqn moves everything closer to the beat (tighter) than 960ppqn.
I understand tighter as being different than finer, and where he was coming from with that comment.
