arpegiator for the mpc

I might just be alittle late with this and y'all might already know this trick, but if you don't here is a way to record arpegiator patterns into you mpc so that you can build a arpegiator library or whatever. I just happened to stumble onto it but if you select a blank program on the mpc and play a arpegiator pattern from your keyboard, and record it on the mpc, you will have that arpegiator pattern saved on the recorded track on the mpc. I would appreciate any response to let me know if this works for y'all or if there are any other arpegiator techniques. peace.

yes this would work, and its quite cool to have the 4k library at hand, its still note quite as flexible as an arp on synth, but still we have realtime controle over durancation and velocity and traspose +/- 12 ..

other ideas* the qlink seq is great for rythmic textures, set it to controle a filter of an external VA and you start relizing new levels,, this thing adds mono-machine features to anything really... 8x qlink seq at a time and this is ofcorse all recordable into the seq to free up more q link seq hell you can even record the q-seq on/off status

couple that with Note repeat, and some delays, (set knobs to controlle feedback, time and ammount and jam over the midi pattern or use q-seq to controle the delay, ..

note repeat/ delays /and q-seq .. now get arping..

this does not work on my triton and mpc. What happens is i just end up recording the note, or chords i played to get the arpegiator going, yes i cans till use arps, but the mpc acts like a trigger, not actually recording the notes.

What settings do i have wrong? a midi filter on my mpc? or (do not transmit arpgiator on my triton)

I would like to record the notes.

This works great with a Mo-Phatt. As for the MPC only recording the initial note you have to set your appragiator (in Cyrus' case the Triton) to send the arp notes. The Mo-Phatt has a setting to transmit the MIDI notes that IT produces, and NOT to resend the notes that it receives.

thank god, i gotta find it. Ill post for triton users if i do and figure it out.

This is awesome, now, cause i can edit the notes once they are recorded, and copy and paste, and shiat.

You have to have your triton set to local on (global page\midi and check local on), if you still can't get it to work PM me. peace.

How do you set that up in the mo-phatt?

I'm just guessing right now as I am not in front of my gear, but I believe you press the "Master" button on the Mo-Phatt, and scroll right. You'll see a setting that says something like "Transmit MIDI." You will want to turn this "On." Now connect the MIDI Out of the Mo-Phatt to the MIDI In of the MPC, and that's pretty much it!

When I use to do this I connected my MIDI keyboard to the Mo-Phatt's MIDI in, and then connected the MPC's MIDI In to the Mo-Phatt's MIDI Out. Then I triggered the Aprs from the Keyboard, which would save them in the MPC.

BUT...

I believe there is a way you can trigger with the MPC, AND record to the MPC at the same time. You basically set the MPC to record only from the MIDI in, and not from the pads (so that you don't record the long single note played from the MPC). Someone told me how to do this, but I can't recall how. I think the setting is in the window when you press the "Open Window" button with the cursor on the "MIDI/Drum" selector, or the actual MIDI channel/Drum program selector. I believe I have the instructions at home, and will post them if I can find them.

I made a mistake in my post explaining how to transmit arps from the Mo-Phatt. The setting is not in the "Master" menu; it's in the "Arps/Beats" menu. It is labeled "Send Arps/Riffs" (or something like that), and you have the option of sending Arps, Riffs (I'm not sure if this is the MIDI data from "Beat" mode, or from the Master Appregiator), or both.

As for setting up the MPC to trigger the Arp, and record the data I could not find the instructions. I may have an electronic copy on my computer, but my PC is sick!
