And it seems that without having a save option, anything you change in the sequence, or the sound parameters, seems to be automatically saved when you change it.

apologies if ive messed up the quotes. these are the two things that stood out for me when i was looking through the videos.
. could you chain patterns with the 808 and 909 cos if you could do it with those then surely you can do it with this. i dunno . seems messed up.
for the saving option i wonder if you could work around it with sysex dumps or something. bit of a pain but still . i think you can copy and paste but then you have to paste it somewhere and if theres only 16 spaces then your going to be saving over something. this also seems messed up .
just my tuppence. my brother is seriously considering buying one and i think the way the usb out works if you had that with logic or something it would be pretty powerful but those two things youve mentioned take away from it as you say.

I heard the difference as soon as he played.
I prefer the 808 version of it. I'd say 85%-95% the same.
Still, I can see the tr8 being a much loved addition in any studio.
If someone can find an R8 it would sound closer to an 808 than that tr8 did.
I had an r8 same time I had my 808 and compared many years ago, they sounded exactly the same.

Samples in rom cards I guess. As a tr808 owner do you get more customized sounds tweaking your drum synths in the 808 compared to working with samples per see. I got tons of samples that I do a bit of touch. But since diving into logic Ultrabeat I wanted a drum synth.

The TR808 is not as nearly as tweakable as my other gear in my sig. I'm better off, sampling 808 into one of those and tweaking it outside the 808. 808 is limited in it's tweaking. Someone asked me to TUNE various stages of 808 kicks and email them the samples. There is a TONE and DECAY, no TUNE knob, lol.

TUNE: Actual note value. (ex. A, C#...)

TONE: How clear the sound of the note is. (ex. on the piano you need to push the key all the way down for a clear tone compared to only slightly hitting the key for a more airy tone)

TONE is exactly how the 808 works. Dude was upset about that and never emailed me again, lol. It sounds almost like a 1/2 pole filter when fully twisted/engaged (not much to rave about) but it keeps the same permanent "tune" whether short DECAY (think short kick) or long DECAY (long drawn out kick that rattles cars and windows, you've heard it before).

One of the best things about the TR808 is when you use the individual outs into your desk so you can eq each sound, insert a compressor on certain sounds, side chain, send groups of sounds into different buses which have different processors on (e.g. for parallel compression), aux send to fx, etc, etc.
Also, the TR808 sound is forever changing, slight nuances which also change depending on what other sounds are playing out of it, how loud each sound is set at, each tuning/tone setting, etc.
The harmonics that come out of it when you, say, overdrive the toms, or eq the hats into just a sizzle, etc... are what make it so good. That's the nature of analogue.
Many factors.
I listen to previous tracks that I've done with my 808 I wonder how the hell I got that sound, lol.
If I try to replicate a particular 808 beat, I can never get it exactly the same. But that's ok because I've found that it's all about moulding the 808 into your tune each time.. it's so organic.
I'm just saying, there's a lot more to a TR808 than just hearing it playing it's sounds straight up.

Now, if only Roland would make a proper analogue TR808-II so people wouldn't have to pay £2000 for one on eBay :Sigh:
Aint gonna happen is it. Maybe Korg will make one then

What's funny I've sat and recreated those drum beats perfectly just to see if I would be able to even begin to glimpse into the minds of our 808 forefather producers. I had the planet rock, clear and jamie jupitor loops uploaded in that 808 pack I had linked in the forum before. This vid is good quality.

I'm surprised you guys didn't know that, lol.
Looking at the 808 you see it's only 3 knobs to tweak a kick, tone, decay and volume :-D .

I am curious about the tr8 I can't front. It's interesting.
