will an akai s2000 IB208P output board work in my MPC 2000?

Mine got fried and had to come out will it the s2000 board work or is it an s3000 i need

does anyone have the output board for sale?

From what I recall reading here, it will work. But you need to use the mounting plate that fits in the MPC2000, and also a ribbon cable that's long enough too.

i have an s2000 that i never use. are there really parts i can swap into my 2000 classic?

couldn't you also midi link the s2000 and the mpc2000 together and utilize that way? like i said i never use mine so i'd like to know.

so I got the s3000xl tonight.
took out the output board
.
I took the floppy cable as looked the same and opened up my mpc 2000.
the mount plate was too big I put it half back together, hooked it up and it started smoking!???!
any ideas?

What smoked up? The 8 out board or the MPC?
If the 8 out board is ok, reinstall it back in the s3000xl and test it to make sure.
As far as that board working with an MPC, I don't know offhand if it's compatible. But I'm sure that cable may be different as well. Best to do some research before diving in blindly. Hopefully there's no damage done.

The 8-output board from a S3000XL can be used in a MPC 2000XL.

If you saw smoke, there is a good chance you had the ribbon cable installed incorrectly (either backward or in the wrong connector). Both the MPC and the 8-output board are fused so you would have to unsolder the bad parts and replace with new ones.

I think I caught it in time the software and the buttons still work I'll have to put it back together
can I use the floppy disc ribbon cable from the 3000xl or do I need a desperate cable?

it worked!

I am trying to use the digital I/O with my apogee ensemble and cant get it to work.
I have tried using my eventide eclipse and it worked.
I have searched already on this board but seems like people got stuck in a cul de sac.
anyone have some tips for me?...please

Just to make a clear message here as I did it very often for me and some friends :

You can use the 8 output board of the s3000xl on the MPC 2000 classic.
You just need to remove the short ribbon cable from the board and replace it with a longer regular floppy ribbon cable.
Just make sure to remove the short part of the floppy cable where a few of the individual cables are twisted / reversed. All individual cables from the ribbon cable need to be straight.

I realize this is an old post, but the more I search online, in regards to installing the ib 208p 8 out expansion board into an MPC 2000 or xl from an S3000xl, installing the ribbon backwards is a common mistake made by many MPC 2000 and 2000xl users.

I aswel, have made this mistake after modifying the rest plate to fit, I installed the ribbon backwards. I did not see smoke. The machine froze as the screen read "wait" I quickly powered down after 5 or 8 seconds later and corrected the ribbon. There was no smoke however there is nologer sound input or output and my pads don't work. I can still load sounds from my internal CF reader and hear samples realy low volume when I preview them in "load/save" menu. I just can't asign to pads.
I seem to get mixed info on repair cost . some say I need a new main board and pad sensors. But how could I access my cf drive if my main board is fried. Or could it be that the parts on the board that need to be swapped out are nologer available and replacing the intire main board is my only option.

I would greatly appreciate any feed back or advice in this matter. I live in Toronto, Canada and there is no Akai serviced repair store and I will have to ship to the U.S..
The exchange rate is so high, is it even worth repairing? Or should I buy a new MPC?

Even though it didn't smoke, read this excellent thread started by Star One before you take it for repair.

Failing that , show it to a tech. It could save you a packet.
