Can Battery 4's pads be mapped to Ren's pads? Every time I try, the sounds never line up pad for pad. Example: I open 16 pads in Battery and assign the usual suspects kick-C1, then snare, hat, etc... When I hit Ren's pads, the snare is in the kick's place, hat is in the snare's place and so on. Until the Ren is fully capable of sending its internal sounds to my DAW via MIDI (multitimbral or whatever), mapping Battery 4 to Ren's pads seems to me , the best alternative. Any help is appreciated.

OH MY GOD... the midi to DAW and multi-timberal feature that most drum machine on the market has would be nice.. ... I'd be completely satisfied if they fixed that above all things....Some of us work more in our DAW than the MP itself, and just want the MP to compliment the work flow.. But seeing how a lot of people on this forum work mostly inside the MP.. I don't know if the demand is high enough for Akai to make it high priority.. I hope I'm wrong.

Or the other way around.. Although you visually see the pad in battery you may have to remap/learn battery pads to the ren pads.

Thanks dazastah. Is the latter done from Ren's Midi controller mode or from Battery's MIDI learn mode?

The demand is definitely high enough my man. This feature has been requested many times in many forms by many people. It's just that every time we bring it up, we get completely ignored. This is a standard feature that every MPC before the Ren/ Studio has implemented. I don't know what Akai's problem is. I bought the Ren because Akai claimed "seamless integration into your existing studio". To me, being 2011 at the time of purchase, this translated into being able to record Ren's program (drums) information into the DAW of my choice and playback via MIDI. Not so. Now I'm forced to try and map Battery's pads to the Ren's. Straight frustrating as hell.

Exactly.. I don't know why its taking so long.. Because my main thing is.. My DAW has certain quantizing features, and custom ones that I'd LOVE to use.. Not to mention faster song layout abilities, automations and etc and audio manipulations that my DAW just happens to do a little bit better than the MP.. If Akai provided just that one option... These feature request probably wouldn't be as bad because people will be able to flawless use the MP work flow with what they have been using before the REN came along.

I'm not quite sure I understand what you're trying to say. Are you saying that the MIDI notes from the Battery pads are/ should be the same as the Ren's?
Elaborate please?

Definatley learn it inside batterys midi mode... Battery is much better and quicker at mapping... You right click and learn then press the pad... that simple.. When battery is inside the ren.

I'm not sure how to change the midi note numbers on the ren when it's a plugin.. I haven't tried it.. (Rens midi control mode only works as a controller to other software plugins/daws that is separate from the mpc software. i think... )

If you use the mpc to control battery as a midi controller in another daw, then map inside the ren.. That way the midi mode acts like any other controller, what ever is armed and monitoring in your daw will use that same mapping from the ren controller..

Yep, it's like that. MPC notes work different internally, I realized that when trying to map my MPD to the MPC Software. Unfortunately, it starts with C#-2, then C-2, and then jumps relatively widely around notes (I needed to put notes from three or four different octaves to pad bank A), which are hell to find.

If you want to remap the Ren's pads, you're forced to use it in controller mode to control Battery or via a MIDI track; both methods need Battery to run standalone or in another DAW.

If you can use MIDI learn in Battery, you might be able use it in the MPC Software quite normally as you probably intend to. This method should be much quicker and much easier to accomplish.

Hope that helped.

It's super quick to set up Battery 4 within the Ren just hit the midi learn icon on battery 4 on the cell you want to activate and then hit the corresponding mpc pad that you want it to match up with.

Voila!

Done.

It is that simple.

Yes you do this for each pad you wish to use in battery 4.
