Has anybody had a problem with the timing of a sample being thrown off when trying to use pitch changing plugins inside the REN software... (I'm talking about plugins that allow you to change the pitch of a sample in real time without effecting the sample timing... IE: apples AU Pitch or Logic's pitch editors)... These plugins work perfectly fine in other DAW's but I tried using it in the REN and it throws the sample completely off beat. Any advise?

I would try pitching the sample in the Ren and then using Ren's patchphrase function to match Logic's BPM (if you're using the Ren as a VST inside Logic, the BPMs should be synced already). Patchphrase is one of the most useful and often overlooked "gems" of the Ren. Truly the next best thing the Ren has to offer to real time timestretching.

time shift in ren works perfect for me. i usually time shift all my samples. then after playing out chops if i want to change pitch. i use tens pith shift. never a bpm issue.

pitch shifting never throws my samples off beat, could be something with your computer. I mean like the real time pitch shifting will either shorten or lengthen your sample is that what ur saying? Are you expecting the Ren to stretch your samples automatically to the sequence? If so it's not currenty possible. Patch Phrase is the only way to sync a sample to the beat.

yeah.. apple AU pitch shifter, logic, ableton, and most current DAW's have the ability to change pitch of a audio file while keeping the tempo the exact same, all in real time...

Mind you i'm working with a quad core mac book pro with 16 gigs of ram and a terabyte of space.. But then again, It could be software issues, so i'll definitely check.

I was trying to use my 3rd party pitch shifting plugins because they are all non destructive.. so i can adjust pitch on the fly and change it back within a second and hear the change instantly with no time change kinda like ableton... I know using Ren's pitch shifting is more of a destructive edit, that has to go through a process to take effect.. ...So I use the REN in plugin mode inside logic to get it a lot done along with melodyne (in case i wanna do audio to midi conversions or take vocals out of samples which require audio track capabilities)

wait wait wait Are you using the destructive pitch shift in sample edit mode/screen? That will destruct your sample, go to Program Edit and pitch your samples there, it's non destructive and you can keep changing the pitch without destruction. They won't sync to the sequence tho, thats a feature I'd really like to see to be able to do that without patch phrase. like in the Fantom X/G you can assign every sample an original bpm, so when its in your sequence, no matter how you pitch it, up or down, changing the tempo will recall all the samples original tempos and stretch the samples and keep them in sync with the master tempo.

Exactly.. i've used the program edit pitch shifter which is cool but it changes the speed of the tempo.. and of course the other pitch shifter is destructive... Thats why I was trying to use the plugins I have because they're a mixture of both of these.. They keep the tempo the same like the destructive shifter but is fast like the program edit shifter... For some reason that particular plugin I have just reacts different in the REN software compared to when I use it in pro tools or logic.

I thought it did when I tried it. The sample I tried that on was not that complex. It worked fine though. Just a lot button pushing. Be cool if we could batch patch phrase
