Akai S900/950 vs OtiumFX Sonitex

For very long time i had Akai S900 on my wishlist, but something crossed my eyes while i was searching around on the internet.

Can you hear the difference between Akai S950 and OtiumFX Sonitex?

OtiumFX Sonitex is a great plugin. I used it years ago for bit crushing duties. Very versatile plugin. Now days I use D16 Decimort and maschine's sp1200/mpc60 sampler mode. These get the job done for me. I like to run my drums through the decimort (sp1200 or eps setting) and sample into my s3000.

you can hear that the plug in hasnt quite got the snap on the snare, but god damn thats close.

I would maybe even conclude that most people can’t hear the difference either, some may even say that “OtiumFX Sonitex” sounds better because you have more options to adjust kHz and bit + more.

The main error of comparison apples and bananas is that you can eat the appleskin but can't the banana peel. know I mean?

A sonitex might give you a somehow similar sound, technically speaking. but it won't give you the process of working with limitations. The "make it work" process and fixed specs of a s900 shape the sound of the product the same way (or even more) as the converter.
Sure you can try to limitate yourself in a DAW/VST sampler too. Use only 8 samples at a time, no graphic display of samples, monophon outs, LoPass only, dont use HQ timestretch, tuning only in 1/10 semitones and so on but that is a shitload of work (even to find sampler plugins that let you choose these settings)

A SP1200 track doesn't sound like a SP1200 track just because of the converters or some numbers.

you can make ya drums sound s900 all day, but you wont be chopping ya breaks in a s900, which is where half the sound comes from.
