New on s950

i just got an akai s950 from an old studio (only 10 hours of play, like new). i have some questions though...
i managed to control it with my 2kxl via midi but i got a serious problem with the data saving. floppy disks are really hard to find nowdays.
-This guy gave me 2 x 2dd disks with sounds, i was wondering if i can use 2hd disks(easier to find)?!
-I work my 2kxl with a cf card reader, is anything similar for s950 or an external hard drive choice?
-I use a firepod audio interface with 8 ins, would be wise to get another one so i could plug all the 16outs for both sampler.
-which samples is better to use with the 950? Drums and basses?

yes you can use hd floppies

1. HD floppy work perfect
2. no real CF card reader but a thing called HxC which is a floppy drive emulator (the drive will think there a many floppy disks on the SDcard). You can read further infos here http://hxc2001.free.fr/floppy_drive_emu ... pyemulator

3. external harddrive: only with an one of the optional cards from AKAI (IB105, IB109) while the IB105 only works with ATARI megafile HDs and the IB109 works with..... I forgot about that but it's probably useless nonetheless because these optional cards are really rare. But look if you have it installed in your 950.

4. 16ins would be cool but you don't need that to work with it. Depending on your workflow and the way you make beats the 8 ins are enough. You could also buy a patchbay and decide what should go into the 8ins every time you make a beat.

5. IMO everything. Depending what you like. experiment with different samples, samplingrates. rec gain settings etc and you will hear what sounds good in your ears.
