Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

I want to trigger 2 kick drum samples, a thump kick for attack and and 808 for sustain, but I want the 808 sample to start a few milliseconds after the thump sample, is there a way to do this on the Ren?

I can't figure out how to move the start of the sample but Akai should have setup the program mode so that we can control the start time of each layer independently. I will probably use Kontakt inside of the Ren to accomplish this. Thanks.

Yes but you can't control when each sample plays back, it would be nice to have a sample delay for each layer.

Didn't they use to have a "insert silence" feature for samples? if not they need one.

You can't actually insert/create silence in the MPC, you can only silence a selected area of a sample. I thought this was possible too but apparently not. Like someone said, best bet is just resample and leave space at the beginning and adjust your start time to where you want it

best of luck

If I could add silence at the beginning then that would work. This problem arose the other day when I was trying to recreate the kick/808 drum from 50 cent's "just a lil bit", the attack from the kick is heard and then the sustain of the 808 is heard a few milliseconds later. Ultimately I could recreate it using Kontakt but it would be nice to do it in the Ren. I think Akai could really make the Ren much more powerful if they would add a few sound shaping tools in the program edit tab, here's some examples:
1) sample start control of every sample/layer
2) a filter and modulation envelope for each layer
3) editable sample loop points for start/end
4) also the ability to edit the sound sources of the MPC expansions

Review the following topics in the link above: Layering with Simultaneous Play and Painting with Elements

Thanks JBM, that's some good info. The only thing about adjusting the amp envelope attack time is that you lose the start of the sample, so this may not work in every situation, but reading this article brought to light something that should've been obvious to me and that is that I could simply use Simultaneous pad trigger and on the pad/sample that I want delayed I can use a simple delay plugin to delay the sample however many milliseconds that I need.
Thanks everyone.
