My record gain knob got a short it won't play music in record mode @ all what should I do

What makes you think there's a short in the record gain knob? Is the potentiometer actually touching something else inside the unit to cause a short?

The record gain knob is used for setting the audio input gain level when recording new samples into the MPC.
Are you trying to record new samples into the MPC through the audio inputs?
