Akai Rhythm Wolf

I wish that instead of MPC pads they used the room for more knobs. I just feel like the pads are kind of redundant. But if it sounds good then why not. 200 bucks is very reasonable.

The whole line of those machines were ill because it took the sequencing of the ASR X, and added the entire Proteus library of sounds via ROM chips.

A sampler would have taken it completely over the top!!

@ MPCWeapon it will not suffer the fate of the Tempest at a $200 price point.

As long as it has midi it will be fine. I have used lesser gear lately( Boss DR-110) and was happy so this is a welcome unit.

It will be wonderful if it has:
Velocity sensitive pads
memory for settings
stable midi
midi in and out


It will be delicious:
If it has room for mods such as more outputs
a warm sound
two midi channels (one for bass one for drums)

PPS The beauty I can see is that I can stack this with other inexpensive gear and make nice sounds. Just think this with the Volca beats, and you are still under $400 with sufficient tweak-ability. Usually I find that layering two analog voices is the trick for the really nice full warm sound then with compression you are in heaven. (especially on a kick drum)

what do you guys expect from a 200 $ synth?? i really hope you do not expect a solid peace of equipment.

If it sounds good it will make a good MPC Companion. They will sell tons either way though because a lot of people love toy looking things that make good or shit sounds.

People seemed hyped at the Volca for $150, but hating on this for $200?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the Tempest has suffered a very good fate for Linn and Smith. It's just the opposite end of the scale to this.

yeah, I don't know what the tempest "fate" is, I have a room full of samplers like most of us, I got the tempest so I could have six voice poly synth with total parameter control and routing options. My take on this so far is this....are we sure that the bass is not the only analog voice, everything mentions only one oscillator, two.....if they are all analog and it's only 200 then cost got cut somewhere. and three, I've waited six months for akai to get back to me about my Ren....till then screw akai

Ok then educate me please, I thought that each analog voice needs and oscillator, does it not? or do the articles I've read about the wolf only describe the bass oscillator and the drum ones are assumed?

THAT would be an interesting concept of limitation. Only one osc for everything so the actual waveform is in a steady morphing process from a click + sine for a kickdrum to a saw for a bassnote quickly to a noise to create a hihat back to the saw to make the nextbassnote etc.

Yep... If EMU would have put samplers in the Command Stations I would have never bought a MPC 1000.

Command Stations were dope without a sampler... so that should tell you how dope they would have been with one.

these are all cheap toys made for the consumer. and the new rhythm wolf ( ) is no exception!
