Are you sure you are trying to connect pin 6 to 12?

The manual says that connecting pin 6 to 11 (1) sets it to dual SCSI mode, leaving the pins off 6-11 (0) sets it to single SCSI mode.


I meant 6 - 11 and clearly I totally misunderstood the manual.

It says in manual scsi 3 is the default setting

It doesn't matter what the manual says the default setting is, you have to look at what the settings on the drive are actually set to.

I have downloaded the manual, and am reading the manual.

There are no jumpers on the SCSI ID jumper pins, so it is set to SCSI ID 0, according to what I see in your photos, and what the manual says for the SCSI ID pins on that jumper block.

There are 3 jumper positions that set the SCSI ID, pins 1-16/2-15/3-14, at the moment there are no jumpers connecting those pins, which means it is set to SCSI ID 0.

If it was set to SCSI ID 3, there would be a jumper connecting pin 1 to 16, a jumper connecting pin 2 to 15, and no jumper connecting pin 3-14.

At the moment, there are no jumpers on those pins, and according to the manual, that means it is set to SCSI ID 0.

Was the drive setup to work specifically with an MPC3000 when you received it?

If not, there are a number of different settings that could be set.


Pins 8-9 jumpered is not the default setting for the drive, as shipped from the factory. You could try removing that jumper and testing it.


There is SCSI ID setting, which is set to 0 without any jumper on the SCSI ID pins.

There is SCSI parity setting.

There is single/dual SCSI mode setting.

There are 4 settings for CIS mode.

There is a SCSI termination setting.

There is a SCSI termination power setting.


I would try to find any recommendations from Rohan (MPC3000LE), in his previous forum posts, about what those settings should be to work correctly with the MCDISK readers and the Vailixi 3.50 OS that he wrote, and which you are using.

I believe it was setup for a MPC3000 yes. I did ask the guy if it was plug and play and he did indeed say yes.


I will do some more research.

The SCSI ID setting can be left at SCSI ID 0, as long as you set the MPC to format/operate with SCSI ID 0 when working with it.

The SCSI termination should be set to on.

You could try setting the SCSI termination power to on, in case the F901 fuse is not working correctly, and you are not getting SCSI termination power to the drive from the MPC.

You could try setting it to Dual SCSI ID mode, so that one card slot is on the base SCSI ID, for example SCSI ID 0, and the other card slot is one SCSI ID higher, for example SCSI ID 1 if the reader SCSI ID is set to 0. Then try using the reader on both SCSI ID 0 and SCSI ID 1 from the MPC.


The other settings, parity and CIS mode, I am not sure about, that is where I would be trying to find some previous advice from Rohan (MPC3000LE).

So, you should have a jumper on the parity pins, and no jumpers on any of the CIS pins, which seems to be different to what you have it set to in the photos.

In the photos, you seem to have parity disabled, and CIS set to 'no CIS formatting by default'.

Did you remove the CIS jumper from pins 8-9, that was on there in your photos?

If the F901 is blown, and not providing SCSI termination power, you can turn SCSI termination power on at the reader, you don't have to keep replacing the F901 fuse.

I wouldn't be replacing it anyway, without being able to test that it is actually blown.
