FWIW I really dig using small analogue boxes with my 2500. This will fit right in, assuming it sounds decent. And, if the MIDI implementation allows CC control for the parameters, its going to be real nice!

BTW a lot of good music has been made with "toys" - it's all about processing etc. And the kick on my MFB522 beats my 808 samples on the 2500 blindfolded (233€ vs 999€), so using a price as a measuring stick doesn't always hold ;)

That's exactly how you program the Commodore 64 SID chip, except you have 3 oscillators to work with.
You program your sounds in a wavetable... so you might have a noise wave followed by a square wave blip followed by a triangle wave which is looped... This would create a hat-kick-bass note which you then put in your sequence..
Then you get to play with synced oscillators, filters and loads more.
The SID chip was created by Bob Yannes who went on to co-found Ensoniq don't you know :)

In all likelihood there will be one OSC per voice with the bass voice having a switchable waveform and fixed waveforms for the drum sounds.

Not sure there is an analog synth in existance that can drive more than one voice in unison from one OSC.

Nick Batt for President of the Electronic World!

I am definitely getting this, sounds unheard. I was sold the moment they said it was like the Alessis drum machine. (though the DR-880 is slightly better)

Peace
Ian

ooooooh thats soooooo sad that they had this voltage accident before the show so the thing isn't able to make any sound.

peace

damn, AKAI have a bad influence on me. I'm feeling like morphing to a little hater

The MP-7 is DOPE!
Source: I own one...

The whole line of those machines were ill because it took the sequencing of the ASR X, and added the entire Proteus library of sounds via ROM chips.

A sampler would have taken it completely over the top!!

I think that's only machine I regret selling. I might get another one if I find one for a good price.

Yep... If EMU would have put samplers in the Command Stations I would have never bought a MPC 1000.

Command Stations were dope without a sampler... so that should tell you how dope they would have been with one.

Yep...a sampler would have taken to a whole 'nother level. Man I miss that machine.

As long as it has midi it will be fine. I have used lesser gear lately( Boss DR-110) and was happy so this is a welcome unit.

It will be wonderful if it has:
Velocity sensitive pads
memory for settings
stable midi
midi in and out

It will be delicious:
If it has room for mods such as more outputs
a warm sound
two midi channels (one for bass one for drums)

Thank you,
Ian

PS Wish there were picks of the back.

PPS The beauty I can see is that I can stack this with other inexpensive gear and make nice sounds. Just think this with the Volca beats, and you are still under $400 with sufficient tweak-ability. Usually I find that layering two analog voices is the trick for the really nice full warm sound then with compression you are in heaven. (especially on a kick drum)

Yeah $200 is pretty economical. I thought it was a lot more than that.

Yeah I wouldn't expect real wood for $200. But it's easy to make your own. I'm sure we'll see a lot of 'em out there soon.

For Rhythm Wolf, I just don't dig the look of it. Volca is much, much more appealing to me. It is easy to dismiss Volca as cheap toy (if you don't pay attention to the details), but I see that Korg has really thought out how each machine (rhythm box, base synth, and lead keyboard) can complement each other, and as being Electribe user myself, I can say that they can produce user friendly products. I wonder how many company can offer such product with $150 price tag.

And, it is hard not to notice how unprofessionally Akai introduced Rhythm Wolf to the world. If you cannot show working model on the trade show (I don't buy that voltage accident excuse), you shouldn't even display the product. It is just embarrassing and shows their incompetence, or they look like they are just showing vaporware (might be the case though.) It does not promote the new product at all.

....even if it sounds like shit, this one is mine....

i love to fool around with cheap gear....some shitty sounds here and there are the salt in my trademark soup....

and pretty sure it can spit out some cool stuff also....

i got all serious pro stuff i'll ever need.....but new toys with no brainer pricing are always welcome....

seriously complaining about a funny box with a funny name is pretty funny, really...

if they don't fall apart after two days, this one's become a big seller....
and we gonna see a lot of crazy mod versions on this one....
single outs?
no problem since it has real analog circuits....bend that shit....yeah...
no wolf is howling more broken and crappy than mine....
oh, we will see...

Man... i have two Command Stations... the MP-7 and PX-7... both maxed out with Roms.

I will never sell those two machines. I'd get rid of my MPC 1000 before I'd sell one of those Command Stations.

When I first got the MP-7... I thought it was going to be a **** to use because it only had 2 LED line's... so not a lot of information was going to be displayed. But man... them shit's are are easy as hell to use. You can do all type of editing to patterns while the sequencer is playing... you never had to stop the music.

The Command Stations also have a nice natural swing to the sequencer... which to me... gave it a funkier sound than sound other drum machines.

Command Station's could have easily gave MPC's some serious competition if EMU would have added more tracks and a sample.
