Emax rack Midi'd to MPC

I've used my emax with a SP1200 but cant figure out how to triger the emax from a MPC, what the hell am i doing from?

Output A on MPC > Input on emax, but when I used the SP i just pressed the button i wanted to be the trigger whenever emax asked for one, and the emax knew.
It seems like this isnt the case with the MPC? :hmmm:

Googled + read manual, still cant figure it out.

(I've midi synced a s950 to a MPC before so I've got some MPC midi knowledge)

A little info like which mpc you are using would be helpful.
You don't midi sync your rack sampler to the mpc, you set the midi channel at each end to match.
On some MPCs the midi channel is set in the TRACK field of the main window but depends which one you have.
Also, normally you will find MPC pads are not in chromatic order so if you need them to be you will have to set them up beforehand then save the configuration to disk for future use.

Yes I'm familiar with how midi works, I've hooked my cords up correctly, Ive set it the program to MIDI, 1A for the track i wanna record my emax to. Under the midi menu I send midi to A.
and they dont really need to be in chromatic order for me to use a few notes that i know. (D1 on the SP was 36 so I know I have samples on my floppies that will react to 36, still doesnt work.)

I tried to look into all the midi-parameters on the emax to find a solution there, but the manual is very very brief on the midi-part.

Rather confusing since im doing exactly what I did with my s950, but cant get it to work :P

Any other suggestions?

This is a choice field with two options—MIDI and DRUM:
1. MIDI: Select this option if you want to record normal
non-drum MIDI data from an external MIDI keyboard
into the selected track. MIDI tracks do not use the

OOOh, missread that whole paragraph, I was just dropping by the forums a quicky!

No i have not, but i have controlled the emax with my SP, and ive controlled a synth with my MPC so if the purpose is to rule out any midi-faults I don't know if thats the answer, what would be the main benefit from that solution?
ill see if i can get it to work tho!

Im gonna give it another session later today, my bet is some setting in the emax.

I highlighted the important/relevant bits in that paragraph by making them bold.


When the track is set to MIDI, the pads do not work.

You need to use an external MIDI keyboard/pad controller/etc. to input MIDI notes, when the MPC3000 track is set to MIDI.

If the MPC3000 track is set to Drum, and a MIDI channel/port, it should play the external MIDI device from the pads.

The problem with setting it to Drum is that it also plays the internal MPC samples at the same time, unless you turn the MPC Local setting to off, but then you can't play the internal drum samples unless you turn Local back on.

It isn't the best setup for this sort of thing, in the MPC3000.

Im trying to trigger chops so their pitch will be constnat = i wanna trigger with the MPC pads, that means i should ahve it on drum, correct?

Seems like a good hint to where my problem was.
