pretty sure NI will get my money on the next purchase also

Yes, I too made a similar move months ago and have not looked back. From time to time I reopen the MPC Ren with not so positive results--the software is just to unstable for me. It is upsetting because I have a tradition of using MPCs and AKAI products, but I was forced to move on. I have kept my Ren and hope that things will improve for them in the near future.

Until then, I think you have made a wise decision.

i have recently purchased the mpc studio and love it

only thing about the knobs is they dont have the same click feel when u rotate them as the main data and scroll wheel.

also perhaps they can do a mk 2 studio with a headphone jack and the click data wheels, and a maybe a flip/tilt screen.

but i still have my maschine mk2 but right now im feeling the studio buttons are dope pads are dope and the functionality is nice my last mpc was back in 2010 with the mpc1k.

this is a big improvement but yeah i hope they evolve the software and sleek it out

but for what i do the shit is fine

Am I the only one that did the total opposite? I had the maschine studio and traded it for the ren. Maschine's workflow is just not for me. I know akai has to get their software right, but just think of the potential the ren has with its Robust hardware.. All those qlinks may lead to more total control. And I have no issue with the audio interface. I think ren users need to be a bit more patient I'm going to remain optimistic and stick with it. Selling or trading the ren is a huge mistake.

@Hellfire, GC told me I would get more $/trade in value if I un-registered my Ren(maybe I could have gotten up to $600 if I gave up my software serial. but I told them Im not doing that, either way Im not trying to wait on Akai, plus I want the software for future use anyways. I told them Im not unregistering my Ren software so they will have to take the controller, install cd, box etc.. So the next buyer will have to register a new number I guess?? (So basically I still have my mpc software registered, prob will pick up an mpc studio if things pick up after a few updates, so I'm glad I did for that) So since I refused to un-register my software they were trying to low ball the shit out me me for like 380-400-ish for just the Ren controller ( I mean I included all plugins, box, etc..) Just I refused to unregister my software so they could just take what was in the box. I was there for like 45 minutes just talking on the Ren and somehow I finally convinced them the Ren is a hot product (lol  ) or will be eventually, but I just gave them hell and they pushed it up to $500 thank God. I gave them attitude too like I was about to walk out and just go home with my Ren if they couldn't push it up to like 500, mind you my Ren is Mint, I had that thing shining from day one, took real good care of it. Looks brand new. Would love to have gotten more but realistically it's not happening, the Ren is just not a wanted product right now. I had my Ren up on craigslist for at least 2 months prior to this, only one person got back to me that whole time period, with an offer of $650 and they wanted me to deliver it to them mad far away, plus they wanted me to unregister my software lmao. So you see what I'm saying. I made some dope beats on the Ren, so its not a complete loss to me either. I feel happy what I got and the state of the Ren I think its pretty fair, especially considering GC. I dont **** with Ebay, Im not going to the post office, shipping labels, boxes and all crap, hell no.

So I traded in my Ren, a m-audio keyboard I had, and a couple other things, and I just paid a few extra bucks for the Fa-06, it was the first one the store got and they just got it that day!!! Crazy right? And like others I had been wanting to get one.

Here's the thing now. I actually got to mess around with the FA-06. READ THIS ANYONE who is thinking of buying an FA-06. Believe it or not, when I took it home, me and my buddy were actually bugging out laughing in disbelief. YOU CAN *NOT* CHOP OR SLICE ON THE FANTOM FA-06!!!!!! CRAZYYYYY I could not **** believe it. Read the whole manual and couldn't believe it. The sampler section is pretty much EXACTLY the SAME as the Fantom G!!!!! or even kind of like the fantom x. Trimming, truncating, scrolling ,zooming, sample edit in general is so fluent and awesome, just like any previous Roland Fantom, but this thing can not chop samples!!!! like  :hmmm: :Sigh: I was like hell no.

Roland has taken a step back with their sampling section on this keyboard, everything u can think of is there EXCEPT CHOPPING, like what the ****? I mean you can import chops and get banging but I like chopping like on all the fantoms from the past did it, I mean just a chop feature... period. There is none. Everything else about the keyboard is absolutely DOPE. The pads actually feel GOOD for banging out samples, thats another reason I was shocked to find no chopping/slicing.I mean I'm just at a loss for words.

I mean the sounds in that thing were crazy. Every patch(now called Tones) I loaded up, I mean every single one, was usable and sounded beautiful, you got all the chords, arpeggio, functions, D beam is there, built in audio interface and you can easily transfer files ,like from my macbook straight to the FA-6 through USB and sample sound in through the usb. Very weird they have a stereo sampling input but its like that small 1/8 size, like they expect you to plug your iPad or mp3player for sampling, I mean what about us people with turntables? Theres no spdif which irritates me. I mean look, this board is dope but not for chopping, sounds, sequencer are all off the meter.

And I forgot the FX, the FX in that thing just make me shake my head, any effect you'll ever need, every part can have an FX(mfx)a reverb, chorus send like the older fantoms, theres a lot more goodies that are upgrades from the fantom G. Also a DAW button, you press and it integrates with logic, cubase, or you just assign it to your daw and the FA-6 controls it. You just select the logic, cubase template or make your own. The pads light up red, green, maybe other colors, not sure as of now. But the pads u can actually rock with, not like those stiff little pads on the fantom x6 that always double triggered and shit.

But man no chopping, that killed it for me right there. They basically expect you to chop on your computer and import your chops and assign them to pads, and you can adjust the trim start/end. Also note, there is no emphasis or de-emphasis for samples, sampling is just wierd in this machine altogether. The dude at GC had me convinced this thing could chop samples and was the next fantom, this is not a fantom to me. It is like a fantom sequencer, fantom sound engine/OS, fantom layout, same arp features and rhythm patterns etc.. with built in integra sounds and what not, and they dropped the heavy duty sampling functions and stripped down the hardware, I mean the keyboard is dope but I too much heavy sampling and it doesn't have what I need, I rather have a fantom x any day over this, or a fantom g.

Not done yet

Just a few hours ago I returned that FA-06 and exchanged it for a Maschine Studio. Haven't opened the box even yet but I know I'll be able to get down again comfortably with my music again. I also still have the mpc software  and well now Im satisfied, and just realized I typed a lot, I'm tired though.

I dug pretty deep into the FA-06 for a day, if anyone has questions I might be able to give you some details on the keyboard... but once again that FA-6 can't chop, i dunno :hmmm: maybe they will add something in an update but I dont even have patience for that "waiting for updates" thing anymore, I'll tell you this though, if tha FA-06 adds chop/slicing in an OS update down the road it's game over tho, I'll def go get one again if they do that, I hope they do it. But I need to rock out now, not later so for now ill be rocking the maschine studio for now. But that mpc studio I def want in the future when the mpc software has eventually advanced to my liking.

I got my Maschine Studio today too and I am absolutely loving it. I copped it for the same reason, I'm tired of waiting for updates and for things to get there. The Maschine Studio is there and updates are constant. I'll keep an eye on Akai updates but man, I'll be gone for a while. Keep it up y'all! Peace!

Nonsense. Sorry, but you didn´t make your homework. For someone who wanted to spend a grand on gear I find your behavior utterly idiosyncratic. Fantom G is phrased-based. No pattern mode (“Phrase List”) in the FA. Its linear sequencer is basically a rerun of that in the Juno G. I hate it.

Does click positions on a Q-Link knob make any sense, when the Q-Link can be set various different ranges of parameter control, so each click would not necessarily equal one position of the parameter it is controlling, depending on the chosen range for the Q-Link?

You'll be back tomorrow bitching about the Maschine Studio, having returned it as well.

You are not going to be happy with anything!

The main reason I can't **** with the MPC Studio is because of the need to have to bank/scroll through Q-Link columns. I use the Q-Links on the Ren a lot to tweak my effects plugins, mix, program editing,to chop, etc, and if I had to scroll through Q-links everytime I wanted to jump to a different column that would drive me nuts! I wouldn't mind picking up a Studio for traveling because when I travel for work, the Ren makes my suitcase heavy as hell!

Is it even possible to unregister MPC Software?

It comes with 4 automatic registrations/authorisations over the net, and when they run out, the user just requests them to be reset by Akai.

What is the software serial that you were not going to give up?

InspectahRANT wrote:Very weird they have a stereo sampling input but its like that small 1/8 size, like they expect you to plug your iPad or mp3player for sampling, I mean what about us people with turntables?

You use a stereo RCA-1/8" cable from your DJ mixer or phono preamp.

Yes it is, I contacted Akai Support when I sold my Ren and my Studio and did it quickly without any hassle. They even stated that the installs were reset to the full 4 it came with brand new.
