What is the better Deal?

Ill keep this one short.

Ive got two options ahead of me.


DigiDesign 002r - 1,300 retail

or

Motu 828 mkII + Logic Express - 1,200


now, i would like to know 2 things.

Is Logic Express any better than Cubase SX 2.0? I never got to use cubase yet because I did not have an interface for my computer so i was doing everything Analog on my VS 840. Im under the impression that Logic is a much more safe and sound program(yes, my brother is getting a mac this weekend aswell)

which one is a better deal?

or should I just buy the Motu, run it with Cubase, then buy a Rode nt1-a with the money i get from trading in my vs 840?

Seems to me that you have your mind set on usin' either Logic Or Cubase so the 002 seems unnecessary, you should go with the 828.

The 828 comes w/ a program called Audio Desk that is more than fairly decent and you can upgrade to Digital Performer for around $350 if you buy the 828 instead of the standard $500 . I've never used Logic before but I'm assuming the express version is supposed to be a lighter version of Logic 7 like ProTools LE is a limited version of PT . DP has unlimited tracks and comes w/ a nice set of plug-ins . It's up to the user though .

For me, I'm a true ProTools user. I know it better than I know myself. Not saying that its better than DP or Logic, but its what I made my bones on so its second nature to me. My production partner uses DP so every once in a while I need to open a DP session. This is not a problem with the 002 since it can be used with DP or Logic. However if you get the 828 you won't be able to use it with protools if the need should arise in the future.

I would suggest doing as much research as possible on each platform before you buy because it all boils down to a matter of what tool will make you the most productive.

i was thinking about that earlier today. i might aswell pay the extra couple hundo's for the digi package, that way i can use both logic and protools, as opposed to just strictly logic with the 828

Since we are on the MPC board, I'm going to assume he's using an MP for sequencing and beat making. IMHO Pro Tools is a better recording and editing tool. Logic has more powerful midi stuff.

I hope people know that you cant open up logic files in pro tools all you got to do is covert it to a omf file. The same thing go for cubase, dp, sonar and what ever. This is why i have stay with cubase and nuendo side of things cause as you can see pro tools le will never give you your money worth or the features that the Hd systems have, while cubase and other programs will!

pro-tools 6.7 adds a lot of features that the hd system has, only light versions of them. like "beat detective le" by the time pro-tools is at 7 it will be off the map
