Well, let me tell you something... there is nothing wrong with the soldering on that board, that's actually how Akai made them... anyways other stuff you described in your story about wires all over the MB and stuff that's **** up, but the pics you just posted in here have nothing wrong... most 2K users will not know that because they never replaced they AD/DA boards but if some of you guys take the time to open the MP and see your boards all boards are soldered like that!

You learn something new every day. Thanks for the response! I'll keep that in mind for the future.

This machine is very new to me. I have always been an MPC user, just never had a 2000. Any and all information is new to me and greatly appreciated. Trying to narrow down my issues to get this machine up and running.

Thanks for pointing that out. It's been a minute since I had both machines open to notice that.

looking through this thread and i have a few comments

1) on finding a loose slider, broken rear button and a loose fdd, did this not send alarm bells immediately?? it was listed as being fully serviced.

2) the pictures of the Pcb do show a large amount of solder and that IS ENTIRELY NORMAL. it is the Frame ground of the in and outputs and that is exactly as it is on every MPC Ever made.

3) If an Mpc 2000 has recently been opened by someone who is careless and the ribbon cable from top pcb to motherboard is forgotten it will make the 2000 display the exact same fault you are describing.... i would bet thats all it is. shows the guy couldnt even be bothered to test the mpc after installing upgrades.

and as you got it to work after you opened it, you obviously plugged it back in without realizing you hadn't had to unplug it

This would cause the freezing or distortion?

Problem solved! Received my new ADDA board in the mail today from I <3 MY MPC....it is a very similar soldering job but much cleaner! Everything seems to be running great now. Thanks for everyones help, greatly appreciated.

Now after finally being able to test this machine thoroughly I have figured out some minor issues. After cleaning up and re soldering the slider it is still not responding. Maybe I will try a new one at some point. The same goes for 2 of the cursor buttons. I figure a new tact switch will solve this. Problem after problem...but it's all worth it! Haha

just be sure the tracks on the control pcb are not burnt or damaged before you spend more money
