CHOPPING SAMPLES

DOES ANYBODY NO HOW TO FREAK THIS LIKE THE 2000XL YET IF SO HOW-SLICE SAMPLE IS COOL BUT I WANT A PERFECT CHOP....
AND DOES ANYBODY USE THEY EFFECTS YET WHICH ONES DO YOU LIKE

What do you mean by 'a perfect chop'? The 4000 slices samples using a mathmatical equation based on the number of regions and the tempo. You can sepecify the number of regions an go in an tweak the start/end points for each. Yes this is a tedious process, but can be done. I use the 4000 for sequencing beats, and I use it for sounds I control with my keyboard, and sequence on my MAC. But I do all my cutting, and choping of sounds in Pro Tools and Recycle and then import the wav. files into the MPC 4000. You will never be able to edit on a 3" x 4" screen the way you can on an Apple 23" cinema display!

For all the 4000 haters......Listen, the 4000 is not for you if all you use is a MPC2000xl, and a turntable. The 4000 is the most powerfull hard-sampler on the planet. It is on the cutting edge with 24bit/96ksample rate. It is designed for people who love the classic MPC design and 'feel', but who already probably use a computer for audio and midi and have a keyboard to control it. And for people who want a lot more RAM. GOT IT??

By the way, I dont mean any disrespect to those of you who only use a MPC2000xl and a turntable. Some of the dopest producers make sick beats with just those two machines! Keep it up.

I'll have one by the end of the year, but just dropped a grip on a 3000, and I just did some amazing shit on it (literally), so Im gonna burn it out, sell it, and cop a 4000 next year....aint no haters in here, im from the bay....gig knows the deal.

Yo earth you got this stuff together no question. Tell me though you got any tips on setting things up the way you are doing it? Your setup is exactly where I'm trying to get to presently. Are you doing Mac sequencing in PT or Logic, ect? Are you mostly editing sequences that have already been MPC built on your Mac, or are you going back and forth between the platforms as your main Sequencer?

Im not hatin on the 4000 earth. Its just that all the complaints worry me a little. I dont want to be in the middle of a track, and next thing you know. BAMM! Its gone. Ya dig?? Plus I'm happy with my setup right now. I can wait a bit longer to see how things turn out. And to those of you who think that people who dont own one shouldnt have an opinion, I sold these things at one point, and watched them come right back. And have had hours of hands on when I worked for Guitar Center (worst job ever).

Gigatron, heres how I have things set up: I use a Mac G4 with Digidesign 001 hardware with Pro Tools. I have a Tascam DM24 digital mixer. I also have the Adat lightpipe card on my MPC 4K. With this set up I have 8 digital outputs from the MPC into my mixer (unfortunately, ADAT lightpipe and 001 dont support 96k so I am still living in 24bit/48k world). The ADAT interface allows me to record up to 18 simultanious inputs on Pro Tools from my mixer. I also have a Yamaha Motif 8 as my main keyboard controller. So far with this setup I am only using Pro Tools for audio/midi, but I have used Logic and DP before and I know that they are better suited for MIDI sequencing. I am waiting for Digidesign to release the new drivers for OS X, and then I will probably get Logic.

Basicaly, I do all of my drum sequences on the MPC and have it slaved to Pro Tools using Midi Clock. Once the song is finished I will bounce the MPC sequences (audio not midi) to Pro Tools (up to 4 seperate stereo tracks at a time.) For keyboard sounds, I sequence everything in Pro Tools. I use a MOTU Midi Express XT. I basically have a Pro Tools template with 8 midi tracks for the Motif and 8 for the MPC. This is where it gets a little crazy. Because the MPC 4k can be used as a conventional sampler, I can load up a sample CD of a grand piano to the MPC and control it with the Motif. When I do this, I will sequence the piano in Pro Tools. I could easily sequence it on the MPC, but I prefer to use the MPC sequencer for drums, and Pro Tools sequencer for keys. You can have sounds in the MPC being triggered by the PT sequencer while the MPC sequencer is playing other sounds in the MPC and its still running in sync with PT. So there you go....I hope this is helpfull. Let me know if you have more questions.

Thankfully, this has not happened to me yet on the 4k, but I remember that happening a few times when I used my MPC2000. Remember, its just a machine...It will never be 100% reliable. If everyone used that logic, there would never have been a Space Shuttle Program to begin with. Dig?

my plan was to get the 4000, and the digi 002! My setup would be similar to yours when I purchased the those two pieces (triton instead of motif)! But I'll just stick with what I have. Its working for me, and thats what counts in my opinion. How does your setup work for you? Just curious!

been outta the loop for a while..bought a used 4000 cheap and just got it outta the shop for a few problems it had (screen, fader repairs, etc) thought it would be the same from the xl i used to own..not at all.. I have this same issue.. many..but i'll start here because for now all I want to do is manually chop the samples and assign em to pads to get something playing..everything else i'll figure out as i go along.
