Using MPC1000 to sequence SP555/MicroKorg

So, I've got an MPC 1000 - the sequencer is super tight and I love how easy it is to use, the SP has unreal effects and I can really manipulate sounds and get cool stuff going. The only problem is I cant figure out how to get the MPC to sequence the SP. From what I've dug up, I have to make a program that has each pad on the SP synced up with the pads on the MPC - Rather than just playing the SP while the MPC is recording a sequence and then have it play back - similar to how I would sequence the MicroKorg or any synth for that matter. How do I get it to work? I'm at a bit of a standstill but I know it's possible, I'm rather new to MIDI so any help would be appreciated, thank you.

Have you tried MIDI out from SP to MIDI in on MPC? Do that, record it, then hook up a cable to the MPC MIDI out to the SP MIDI in. Make sure to select the correct track MIDI output that corresponds with the MIDI going to the SP.

Or if you want to use the MPC pads but don't know the SP note configuration, connect the MIDI out of the SP to the MIDI in of MPC and go to the MPC's MIDI monitor. It will show you the note you need to assign the MPC pads to.

I don't fully understand how to read the SP note configuration - but I'm not sure why i cant play the sp and have it sequenced similar to how I would play a synth and it would play back , you know? either way, im gonna do some more tinkering and see what happens - i know its possible, i just gotta figure it out

okay ive figured it out - only to find a new issue. If i want to sequence pads E and on, they need a different midi channel and midi notes past 98, the MPC only goes to 98, how do i circumvent this?

I don't think you can, as you found, it only lets you assign MIDI note numbers 35 to 98 to the MPC pads.

Not sure if any of the JJOS versions allow you to assign the full range of MIDI note numbers, from 0 to 127, to the MPC pads, or not.

If you change the track from Drum to MIDI, you can use Step Edit mode to enter the full range of MIDI note numbers into that MIDI track in a sequence.

You could also use an external MIDI keyboard or MIDI pad controller, for example, to play the full range of MIDI note numbers into a MIDI track in a sequence.

Does that require a JJOS other than the free version? That'd be wicked awesome to figure out though I can't seem to decipher it

u need the paid version.

Ive gotten the MPC to recognize all the pads I press on the SP, but it wont record them and play it back, which is annoying. Also, when I play them sometimes theres this really distorted awful sound until I pull out the midi cable, this is super frustrating, any ideas?

sounds like MIDI loop. do you have both cables plugged in? the quick remedy is to remove the MIDI in cable from the SP while recording. or turn off MIDI out on the MPC while recording. I don't use the free version of JJ or that SP, so I'm not sure what the parameter details are. you might be able to turn the SP MIDI echo off.
