Your S950 techniques.

So I've had my 950 for a lil while now, mainly using it for drums (just low passing and transposing) and more recently filtering the same sample at 3 different levels & layering them over eachother eg. One at 99, another at 50 and another at 0 to beef them up and give depth and bass.

I know there's more to a 950 than the low pass, like time stretching.

So out of curiosity, what do u guys mainly use yours for? And how?

I recently sold mine, but I used it for years and did whole beats in it and sequenced it in the MPC.

-Drums - you can overdrive the volume when sampling to get a real nice distortion

-samples - same as above + adding the filter around 55-75 which makes it sounds real nice.

-Some timestretching but It doesnt sound that good to me, more effect than true to sound.

-I love the loop mode aswell, used that a lot.

-I sampeld everything in 45rpm+8% and pitched it back to save memory + gives everything a nice crunch.

-a single note spread across the pads sound real deep and nice.

a practical use: use the crossfade loop to rebuild the reverb decay of a chopped drum kit. saves a little space compared to timestretching the tails

also, crossfade loops will work with alternating type loops. not sure how that comes together exactly but it does something different than just normal crossfade loop.

I've never used Crossfade Loop either but I use Alternating Loop constantly for tails.

I use the 950 for anything and everything really; drums, bass, vocals, stabs, etc.
I really like to play with the VCF envelope. It makes the filter really shine.
Things also take a step forward when you use the individual outs into a mixing desk.
