External Synth...u can't be serious

Everything I'm reading seems to be saying that in order to sample an external synth into the mpc ren, you have to go line in and midi in. That's all well and good with roland fantom or something of that nature, but what if I want to sample in from vintage keyboards that don't have a midi connection? Is that really not possible? Someone please clear this up for me. Can't find any solid info or tutorials on this. Thanks!

U hit sample and play the synth. Or get a midi to cv converter for your pre midi synth. Kenton makes one.

Think about this, how can you even sequence a keyboard that doesn't have midi with the MPC?! The only obvious solution is to sample the keyboards output into the MPC while playing the keyboard live.

you buy an interface cv to midi.

You gonna have the same issue on all your gears, not only the Ren.....

I dont care about sequencing. I just want to sample individual keyboard hits and assign them to pads like i do on my mpc 5000. Is this even possible? Havent been able to figure it out.

Audio out from the keyboard directly into the audio in of the Ren or audio interface if your using the studio. go to the sample page near the bottom, hit RECORD, make sure the MONITOR bottom is on, so that you can hear what your recording. you do not need midi to hear the keyboard bro, so I really don't feel you on that.

My man, like others have already stated, just run your keyboards outputs directly into
the MPC Ren inputs...and sample away.

Your making it harder than it should be. If your not sequencing then midi is irrelevant.

I'm following all those instructions. No signal on my record page when i hit a key on my keyboard, no sound, no nothing. Experimenting with mic vs line on the switch, nothing...

Which connector on the rear of the Renaissance are you plugging the synth audio output into?

Are you getting sound playback out of MPC Software, through the Renaissance audio outputs?

Are the Renaissance audio inputs selected as an Active Input Channel in the MPC Software Preferences/Audio Window?

Did you check the proper ACTIVE MIDI INPUTS box?

Ok bam. I had to select inputs 1 and 2 as active in preferences. Thanks for being detailed. Now i have audio.

I am getting some low visual noise on the record screen though, even when no audio is playing and record gain is turned all the way down. Also, when i do record, im getting some digital pops and distortion. Not all the time, but a lot. And im sure im not peeking, so thats not the problem.

I have my ren plugged into my laptop via the usb and im using the computer headphone jack as my output. Please dont say i have to use the ren as my audio output to eliminate the distortion, because i put my mixer in storage thinking i wouldnt need one while using the ren. Thanks!

Why can't you use the Renaissance as your audio output, and plug your headphones into the Renaissance headphone output?

Try setting your Audio Buffer Size, in the MPC Software Preferences/Audio, to the next higher setting, until the pops/distortion goes away.

Setting the Renaissance as your audio output might be better for less pops/distortion, at lower Audio Buffer Size settings.

Thanks. Seems to be less popping with ren as output and headphones. I guess i'll go with this method even though its not my favorite way to do things.

Wow-having to use soundflower to sample in from itunes, and now all this drama just to sample in a keyboard. What a hi-tech piece of gear...
