External Synth...u can't be serious

Honestly what the hell is the point of even having a ren if i cant sample in without all these problems. I think im going back to the 2500.

So I'm not having this digital popping/clipping while in record mode problem as much when I use the Ren as my output (instead of my computer) and listen in record mode through headphones, so my question would be...

Can I go out of my Ren directly into my monitors? Or do I need a mixer as an interface? I don't want to blow my monitors so I'm asking first to see if anyone safely does this. Thanks!

If you have powered monitors, you may connect them directly to the Ren's audio outs via XLR balanced (mic cables) or TRS 1/4" (big headphone) jacks. If your monitors are passive (no built-in amplifier), you will need a powered mixer or external amplifier between them and the Ren.

Why do you have to use sound flower to sample from iTunes? Thats Maschine my friend.

MPC supports pretty much all file formats, even flac i think. Just drag the file from iTunes to a pad.

I like to chop by taking in little parts at a time from throughout the song and assigning them to pads. Not just taking one big chunk and going into typical chop mode crap of lining up all your start and end points. That's too limiting for me. I hate how all new gear assumes that's how everyone likes to chop.

So I'm good with my sound card/stereo out setup now, but I'm still having problems with digital popping and feedback. Whenever I have an external device hooked up to the Ren, random distortions, delays, and digital feedbacks occur not only on the sound coming from the external device, but on whatever other sounds I play that are assigned to pads.

I will often adjust the sample rate in preferences, which can eliminate the problem for a few minutes, but it eventually comes back. The latency also starts hopping around on its own, sometimes making it so there's a 1-2 second delay between hitting a pad and hearing the sound from the pad. Then it switches back on its own. There's no consistent correlation between sample rate, latency, and problems with noise. It seems to do what it wants and it changes often.

This is really annoying. I'm pretty sure I have everything set up properly. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks in advance.

U did put your asio settings in high performance? Better don't touch sample rates latency

I take it that you are using a Mac.
I would have suggested something like ASIO-4-All to assist with the latency issues. We all know how much of a **** they can be. I recommend fiddling with the sample rate to find a happy medium and use some latency compensation. ( Around 256-512 should work for you, but everyone is different.)

Would prefer not to have to buy an additional piece of gear, as I switched to the Ren to try and simplify my setup. This is lame. I keep trying so hard to make this work with the Ren, but it's just problem after problem. And I'm only trying to do really basic functions, like sampling something.

By the way I don't think I completely understand the difference between Sample Rate and Audio Buffer Size. They seem to affect each other? Or are they completely independent from one another? What is the exact difference, in most basic terms, for an idiot such as myself?

And how do those each affect the latency number? Anyone out there who samples external synths often on the Ren without problems? Exactly what setting do you use for each of these 3 categories? (Latency, Sample Rate, Audio Buffer Size). Thanks!
