Grrr... just snapped a CF slot pin

A pin on my CF card slot has just broken off (it was one that was bent 90 degrees when I got the machine that I pulled up and straightened out and I've always had to be a bit careful with how i guide the cards in as a couple of others were a bit off-centre too).

Anyone replaced a pin? I was wondering if I could use a cheapo eBay card reader as a 'pin donor'?

Or am I going to be better off not wasting my time and getting a new CF slot assembly from mpcstuff?

Someone posted a thread about replacing a single broken CF reader pin, with a replacement pin from a cheap $5 card reader or something, in here very recently. I think they said they took it to a PC/laptop repair place to solder it in.

Someone else used the whole card slot/pins from a cheap card reader, and swapped out all the pins in one go...

I'm a pretty good solderer but that looks pretty tricky.

Due to time constraints and not wanting to get bogged down may go for the full replacement for MPCstuff but pick up the Wurth part, have a little go at my leisure or get a guru friend to solder it - that way I have a spare on hand. The CF slot quality doesn't seem to be stellar on the 2500 compared to, say, my digital camera.

The Wurth full replacement was just one way of doing it, I am pretty sure that someone else recently desoldered a single pin from the MPC reader and replaced it with a single pin from a cheap card reader.

Do you know if the MPC will run with the whole CF assembly removed (obviously I'll lose headphones for a while)? Then I can be a bit more leisurely about working out a good cheap fix vs. just replacing the whole assembly.

I think it does, but not 100% sure.

I was going to say just buy new and be done with it, but after checking what they go for...I'd say it's worth a shot to try to re-solder new pin

Yeah, it's not massively urgent (got an HD and can use usb) but I've been meaning to fat pad the 2500 so didn't feel like unscrewing everything lots of times.

Looking on Social media to see if any friends and friends of friends may be good with a bit of fine soldering.

Local proper synth repair shop would probably charge so close to just buying the daughter card it won't be worth it.

i have replaced pins on a few occasions, its not the easiest way but is by far the cheapest

great find! and loads cheaper than mpcstuff...how were you able to track down this part ?

I've emailed them twice and got no response. I'm in the UK and was asking if they shipped here as on their PayPal shop it only allows to you to select the US.

Even if they don't I could probably get it sent to a friend in the US and they can post it on. But as they don't response... pah...
