your 4000 is broken.
no sound = broken

broken = needs to be sent to a service center, because you are obviously not going to be able to DIY

You are looking at a $400-$600 dollar repair, pl;us additional shipping and return costs.

by all means go ahead and check the RAM

Can someone please help me get audio routed out
What is the setup on the 4k

Sometimes things need to be activated. Quirky? Just hit play and record on the transport. You dont have to actually record anything. It will activate the program.

Also if you used 16 levels in a previous mpc and you load that into the 4000. It wont be "activated" go to step edit and scroll through. It will activate the 16 levels.

i bought it for $700
so i spent $200 on it
if i can do the repairs for a decent price i will be happy

how do you expect to repair the unit when you cannot even remove the RAM?

I get to keep the item
and I get $500 in partial refund
in other words i bought the 4k for $200
I have $500 left to either spend on repairs or to buy an sp 404sx
once i get the quote from the repair people ( have to pay $50 just for them to check it out....) I will either trash the mpc 4k and buy the sp 404sx or buy another mpc 4k
the 4k i currently have has the digital expansion board and 512mb ram
with 80 hard drive so i could sell it for parts very easily
oh yeah and i could sell the screen as well
but the 4k is odd so i dont know if i want to buy one again cause it seems like akai doesnt care for it no more and i cant get aksys working neither downloaded the program but the driver for the 4k wouldnt install when i connected usb
oh well
no wonder people say get the 2500 cause the 4k got mad problems
wish i woulda known

The 4K has got zero problems but yours has. If you think you can learn its various ins and outs in 5 minutes you'll be very disappointed.

my honest advice: you (specifically, not ubiquitously) should probably just buy a different machine. the 4K is a monster but i'm not convinced your approach to the whole thing on a meta level is gonna work.

This 4k did not work when i got it right out of the box.
I have seen other posts on this website about the same problem.
Akai offers no help...
That is a reason not to get a 4k
The akai o.s. is on 1.71
repair for this product is extremely expensive
I was really hoping it would work
but oh well
Tested the xlr cables and the monitors and both work
The problem is the 4k.
The seller said the item worked when he had it and everything was working
The item was packed decently but when i turn it on for the first time it doesnt read hard drive?? I open up the 4k and see the connection to the hard drive was disconnected i fix that problem and boot the 4k back up. I get sound for a little bit but it is distorted and crackling. I had run my turntables through the phono in with ground wire and i got signal but it was bad quality.
Either the 4k is extremely gentle in the case that the hard drive connection came out during shipment or it was not already working. The person who sold me the item has excellent feedback on ebay and has sold multiple mpcs. So i dont know what to say.
I look here for answers and people tell me it is broken without even looking at the thing. Nor asking questions.
Prior to posting this thread i looked at this thread where other people had the same problems.

I appreciate all who have tried to help me in this process. P.S. Im trying to be patient but the 4k isnt working atm. Making me really sad. Plz help me. TY

The minimum you need to do is remove the RAM and try to operate the MPC just using the small onboard RAM.

Then put the RAM back in, and try different RAM.

It is not easy installing the RAM, it takes a lot of force to get it seated and you must support the PCB when you push it in. I was able to do it with one hand pushing the RAM and the fingers of my other hand giving a bit of support to the PCB where the slots are (right hand side looking from the front)

You will need a wooden spoon to prop open the top. Removing RAM is easier - there is a little mechanism on the slots that prises the boards up.

Good deal, lets try to fix it.

First reset the machine by going into global window and initializing f6.
