NEWS Flash!! New MPC concept shown at Build 2014

Until we see this 'in action' with a working OS, I suspect calling this a prototype is somewhat misleading. It seems to be nothing more than a proof of concept put together for this conference.

But as a concept, I.e. a powerful, self contained standalone MPC running an advanced OS, clearly this is heading in the right kind of direction!

Would an MPC running Windows OS need 'Norton Internet Security - Iconic MPC Edition'?

To me it looks like Renaissance meets a stripped-down Microsoft Surface dedicated to music and MPC Software. Standalone and i noticed the ethernet port.

Considering Ren is about 1000$ and Surface 1000$ too...considering there are enhancements/improvements and considering the things removed since not needed...Let's say it could be released for 1999$

It's probably going to come with 2.0....so one year from now.

I instant buy it if that's what i think.

I'm working with Maschine on windows now with no problems so I'm all in when this drops. My MPC-5000 MV-8000 and Maschine will be history. This new MPC and Kompete 9 is all i'll need.

If you don’t have one, you should probably get one. I know over the next years, they’re trying to make it a standalone unit. If you know it now, in three years it’ll be like the new MPC of the ’90s.

The problem with it running the MPC Software is that the MPC Software is clearly not optimised for a small screen or touch screen environment - you can't just throw a desktop application in there, the usability would be atrocious.

Hopefully more a case of re-working the existing MPC Software to auto-adapt depending on the environment, rather than having them simultaneously managing two entirely separate applications.

True, but at least audio tracks because the power will be there in the box. Based on what was said in the video it will be open... Does that mean JJos can GO TO WORK?

Not sure - the Windows OS itself may be open in as much as anyone can develop apps for it (I hate using the word 'open' in the same breath as Windows) but I suspect once the OS is embedded in a specific hardware product, the manufacturer will be able to lock it down to only running specific applications (i.e. the 'MPC Software Iconic Touch Edition').

Regardless, no doubt someone would be able to hack it and install whatever they wanted inside, most likely Maschine 2.0
