Logic + Ren

I'd like to have a Logic MIDI track set up for each MPC Ren track and use Logic's sequencer instead of the Ren's, is this possible? Can the MPC Ren record MIDI directly into Logic?

Yeah You'd think DAW integration would be quite important when developing a software/hardware sampler...

I really don't know what Akai and Native Instruments are thinking, MPC Ren and Maschine are both missing the point. These products are supposed to make life easier for producers, running 2 sequencers at the same time is a massive pain in the balls.

I think I am missing the point...of why you would buy an MPC, and then want to sequence it from a DAW.

Why not just run sampler and other plugins within the DAW itself, seems overkill to buy an MPC, and then just want to use it as a multi-timbral sampler/plugin host, as a plugin, within a DAW, when the DAW can host those sort of plugins itself, directly.

But you guys obviously want to use it like that, I just don't see the point.

Yes and thats how I use it as well but everyone has their own way and it should be able to do that in my opinion. I dont use Cubase until its time to record vocals.

It's not that you're missing the point Simon, it's just not your workflow. However as you mentioned, quite a few here including myself do work this way and it makes perfect sense to us. Bottom line is, in this day and age, any controller/ software package developed for the sole purpose of computer music production should have this functionality. Period.

I think its just using each thing to its advantage.... the MP work flow is smooth, quick, and comes in handy when its time to chop and lay down drums.. but a lot of DAW's have more advanced options when it comes to sequencing, editing, and audio tracks... For instance my DAW has quantizing grooves that i've taken directly from live recordings that can't be used with the MP simply because the REN doesn't sequence in the DAW.. It's just a nice level of flexibility to have if your try to pull off advance features that the REN hasn't added yet.
