Weird S950 issue

Hi all, just got an S950 and having a weird issue and hoping someone can help.

I have a sample in the S950 which is looped but if I record a 4 bar sequence on the MPC and then play it back the sample on the S950 will only trigger on the 1st, 3rd, 5th (and so on) play through of the sequence, it doesn't trigger on the 2nd, 4th, 6th etc.

If I change the midi output for that channel to my S6000 with the same loop it triggers every time the sequence loops. Same for other gear connected to the other midi outs. I've tried switching the S950 to a different midi out port but the same thing happens.

I'm using an MPC2500 with JJOS 128XL for sequencing.

Have looked in the manual and tried to work it out but not having much luck.

Anyone know why this might be happening with the S950 and how I can sort it?

I don't know how to 'initialise' or reset an S950 to the factory defaults, but that is certainly worth a try before trouble-shooting.

You say that you "just got" the machine. Expect all the usual 'post-sale' questions.

Sounds like you haven't changed the 'Output Voice' in 'Edit Program'. It's 00 by default.
Set the output to anything from 01-08 and use the 'Mix Out' socket on the back.

I recall when I first got the S950 that the ALL(00) and Left(09)/Right(10) outputs were polyphony trouble so I never use them. I found it better to manage your own polyphony by manually setting the output channels in Edit Program and using the Mix Out and/or individual outputs.

This is one of the good things about the S950; how you can set up your program sounds to cut each other off by setting certain sounds to use the same output, like with the SP1200.
The S950 has 8 voices that can play at once (8 voice polyphonic). You set each of your Keygroups (in Edit Program) to use whichever voice/output you want. Those keygroups that use the same voice will cut each other off.
If you leave it on ALL, then the S950 will manage your polyphony for you and switch between various outputs when limits are reached... or something.
