Is using Patched Phrase to...

...alter pitch of a sample in real-time without changing tempo(via q-link) possible?

Say I have an eight-bar sequence running at 120BPM and resample the main melody by itself and then turn that into a patched phrase with the correct BPM dialed in. Could I then setup one of my q-links to be the pitch of said sample so I can alter it while in-play without f*cking up the sample's original tempo?

I'd experiment myself but won't be able to get up to the studio for the next 48-hours so any replies are much appreciated.

I don't think this is possible. It's a really memory intensive process that the MPC probably wouldn't be able to handle even if there was an option for it. Best you can do is pitch shift the sample in the trim screen and switch between the new one and the original. I can never get the pitch shift to sound good in the MPC anyway so I do a lot of editing in my DAW then import the samples into my MPC for live use and sequencing.

I may be wrong. It seems like this is something everyone wishes they could do with their MPC when they first get it.

You can change the pitch of a patch phrase - just do it the program page where you would normally change the pitch or assign a Qlink to real time tune and the pad in question.

It's not pitch shifting as such - a patch phrase plays individual chops, in a specific pattern. Changing the pitch effectively changes the pitch of each hit.

There are ways of doing this in OS2xl using pattern mode too, its a bit more involved (you have to sequence the pattern from individual chops first) but the audio doesn't have the same garbled quality (if you alt loop or crossfade loop individual samples instead of timestretching).

I know its not the 1000, but I use this technique all the time on the 5000, it actually works pretty well, and can come up with really creative stuff, especially if your bag is Dn'B
