hi,

intertesting question. it depends what your "needs" are. if you use a daw or a sample editor and edit your sounds in a computer the needs are others as if you use the mpc machine only to edit sounds. make your experience.

Personally, I use JJOS1 every day. I'm sure that there are features I'm missing but I don't notice workflow damage from not having them (in fact, I'm almost completely unaware of them on purpose  ).

The stock Akai OS is really lacking so I instantly jumped to JJOS1 and haven't looked back (or forward... really lulz)

I have recently switched to OS3, and I really like it. I don't miss the lost functions of OS2XL. So it really depends on your needs. I'm not much into sampling/slicing/looping stuff.
My MPC is essentially the master sequencer of my synths studio. The track edit display alone is worth the leap of faith... I also like the UI, which seems less cluttered, and more straightforward. I don't think I will revert to OS2XL.
