I had a feeling it would be ready this week, being that the beta release candidates were out last week. Of course, I couldn't reveal any info, and none of us who tested it even knew about the new Rack Extension until today. We all knew something big was coming with the SDK 2.0, and now it's here. All registered Reason 7 owners can update for free and get the new Synchronous RE for free until June 30th. I just got finished downloading 7.1. So I haven't tried Synchronous yet. But I just watched the video and I'm looking forward to having some fun with it.

Propellerhead Upgrades Its Rack Extension Plug-In Platform

New Instrument Development Toolkit lets content owners create instruments without coding

Stockholm, Sweden, April 9, 2014 – Propellerhead today announces further advancements to its software developer kit, that make it easier to build and sell Rack Extensions for its award-winning Reason platform. Designed for both C++ engineers and sample instrument designers, the updated SDK2 and new Instrument Development Toolkit (IDT) have all the tools necessary to develop stunning instruments and effects and bring them to market with minimum effort.

“Our goal is to create a turn-key solution for developers to build, sell and market their Rack Extensions and extend the pool of instrument makers to content developers,” remarks Timothy Self, VP Product Marketing.

Since its release in 2012, Propellerhead’s Rack Extension platform has emerged as a powerful audio plug-in format currently with over 600 companies developing and over 200 instrument and effects devices available via Propellerhead’s online store. Rack Extensions blend seamlessly in the Reason rack offering great sound, smooth workflow, rock-solid stability, intuitive routing, automation, deep-editing and flexibility Reason users expect.

Rack Extension SDK2 includes a programming interface to create custom interactive displays. The scriptable Instrument Development Toolkit allows developers build professional sample based instruments without writing C++ code and sell them directly in the Propellerhead Shop. In addition, instrument designers can quickly transfer existing Kontakt and NN-XT sound libraries into the Rack Extension instruments using the Toolkit.

Rack Extensions SDK2 is available today. The Instrument Development Toolkit is expected in May. Developers can sign-up now at Propellerhead’s website: http://www.propellerheads.se/developer

Yeah, this update is tight, and Synchronous is just the beginning of what's to come. Rack Extensions are gonna get more exciting with the new SDK. I'm looking forward to seeing what's next from third party developers.

Cool. Glad you got that sorted out. I haven't found any issues yet. But I also got distracted with the MicroBrute, which I should sync with Reason soon. Running some hardware through Synchronous should be fun.

From what I've read, the SDK supports samples in the RE now. But I don't believe it can actually record samples. I'm sure it'll evolve to become more capable in the future.

i signed up as a developer and was approved with my company Skulptur Sound. I haven't received the kit for REs yet, but I did receive the REX2 dev kit, and browsed through it and gotta say this stuff looks tough.. i know nothing about writing code or C for that matter.. what i would want to make is a RE that has 12 pads and looks kinda like a mpc500 has midi in and out and has a sample editor for each pad, like kong.. basically like a mpc500 in my reason rack that i could control with my mpc500…weird i know, but shit would be sweet for me…

The REX2 and the RE SDKs are entirely different, I'm sure. From what I've read about the RE SDK, you don't need to know C+ and all that, and Props even offer free support for devs. When you get the kit, hopefully you'll be able to do something like that for the most part, which would definitely be cool to see.
