PLS help with "Not Ready" problem with 2kxl

so i just bought an xl off of craigslist, and everything looked good, im used to the 2k5, so the only think i didn't check was the zip drive, its an internal zip drive, but i have no zip for my computer, so i go into load, and device is set to atapi, anything else it says scsi device not ready, but when i go to atapi, it says "not ready" over and over, in load, save everything in those menus. maybe the zip disk is empty, but im also told there is suppose to be a pic of a zip disk in that menu, there is not. when i take out the disk and load it, it makes a sound a green light flashes for 2 seconds. but same problem in load screen, "not ready"

im new here but been lurking for years lol, any help would be appreciated.

I think it only shows a zip drive logo if it's a scsi one set to one of the scsi IDs... so do you have a zip disk actually in the drive? If so, is it making any noise?

thx for the quick response, yea i have one in the mpc, i eject and try again, it makes a sound that def reminds me of some floppy loading sounds, and then it kind of gives off this buzz that remains untill i eject the disk, there is little mini flashes then one 2 second flash of the green light when i load the disk

well... honestly, this sounds like the drive is ****.

However, this is not a bad thing, this is the best thing to happen to you. Let's say you had 10 or 20 songs and a whole library of sounds saved on there and then that happened.... you'd be screwed. So consider this your lucky day. You can and should install a CF card reader.

You can splurge and pop in one that is $30, $40, $60, etc.. there are many out there that look great and work... or you can go the DIY route and put in a two dollar one from ebay. look for something like this:

now the reason the other ones are more expensive is because they have a bracket to install it into the mpc... but you can make your own too with something that fits in the slot... for example, some people used to take the broken floppy drive (or zip drive) and hollow the guts out and they would use that to make a case with electrical tape that installs in the slot.

damn, is there any service out there that does it for you? i just threw all my money at the mpc, maybe the external? or is that done too? maybe links to some other cf card reader, actually ill google that, but thx for the help, now im sad :/ is there anything else i should test before i find out too late, i checked all pads, menus, wheel buttons, didnt check outputs since i cannot put sound on the zip??

cf memory cards are good, zips are very bad...

here is the thing. You have a sampler... I know since the invention of ipods that people never seem to want to move audio files around besides by transferring them but actually the best way in my opinion to get sounds into the mpc is by sampling them into the mpc... it's a sampler!! plus any audio source into the record inputs and record right into the mpc. It will be the best... no conversion needed... also you get the analog to digital conversion of the mpc which can sound awesome... you can also crank the gain knob too.

in 2014 that is half the reason to even bother using an mpc.

this happened to me with a 2000xl i bought over ebay, i ordered a floppy off ebay and put it in and BAM, worked!! it was a zip before, but what ever, i think the floppy drive cost me 20 or 30 bucks..
