so why are you so mad that you're complaining about how long 1.7 takes? seriously do ni pay you to complain about the ren, a product that you don't even use? you spend more time on the forums than actually producing with the ren? just doesn't make any sense, why are you wasting your time? go find a piece of gear that you can actually use to make music, and go on the forums for that piece of gear and actually try to add something to the community. all your bitching does is spread negativity, it's clear that you're completely close minded to the possibilities of the ren.

i'm seriously baffled, you're ranting about how 1.7 will be 1.6.9 and everything else, but why do you care at all! you don't use the ren! you don't like the ren! so sell it now!

Does it really matter when they actually released it? If the website says November 2013, then that must be when they were finished coding it. Think about it. It was released around January 13th, right before winter NAMM which started on January 23rd. They released that right before they presented some of their new products which actually didn't include anything related to the MPC line. They're official presentations had nothing at all to do with the MPC line, and at that time they didn't even mention or present the new APC line either. I remember reading the forums here, and a lot of MPC users were disappointed at what they presented at NAMM, even though 1.6 had just been released. Then, later on during NAMM, there was a short video of a 1.7 beta which included some new features.

Honestly, I believe it was completed in November 2013. I think they purposely waited until right before NAMM to release it in the hopes that users would feel like their Ren software was still being supported. Why else would they put November 2013 on the release notes on the website?

I still believe that the new MPK line, and the new APC line are their primary concern right now. That's where they plan on making their money this year. The MPK's haven't been released yet, but they will be sometime in the spring. The APC line and Rhythm Wolf are going to start shipping in the fall.

How much revenue is a 1.7 update going to bring Akai this year? We've already seen the price of the Ren drop pretty significantly since it was first released. Usually, when an MPC price starts dropping, that's a bad sign. The MPC 5000's price started dropping like a rock right before it was discontinued.

I honestly hope that there is a new MPC on the horizon, and that it's software is backwards compatible. That way, Ren users won't go through what MPC 5000 users have been going through waiting on a software update. Every year for the last 5 years, MPC 5000 users have had their hopes of a new O.S. for the 5000 crushed at NAMM. Personally, that's why I refuse to buy anything from Akai that is dependent on their software and software maintenance.

This is all coming from a long time MPC 3000 user...............

Pete, the lead MPC software developer, apparently wanted to get 1.6 out on December 24th, but there was apparently some sort of bug/problem they found in the last day or two, which apparently meant they had to remove a feature, and therefore go through the beta testing process again, that is why it was delayed until January 13th.

The release notes seem to have been written in November, so maybe it was finished coding at that stage, and maybe it then went through their beta testing process, leading to the expected/missed release on December 24th.

The speculation around NAMM was due to Akai's usual marketing tease campaign, which turned out to be nothing to do with MPC Software, people were disappointed because they incorrectly thought 1.7 was going to be released, but with 1.6 only being released a coupe of weeks before, that was never going to happen.

The MPK and APC lines are not really going to impact on MPC Software development, as the software developers do not have anything to do with the hardware development. All that would be needed, from the software development side, would be support for the MPK as a controller for MPC Essentials. The sales of MPK controllers, being MPC Essentials controllers, would be contributing to MPC related income, and therefore possibly the continuing development of MPC software.

But don't let facts, and logic, stand in the way of conspiracy theories, or doom and gloom filled hate.

I don't blame people that are complaining, if my experience with the Ren or any other product would be as bad and frustrating as for some of the guys around here, I would be complaining too.

you sure Version 1.6 wasn't (November 2013) ?

The initial release would have been in November, but the actual release was 13 Jan, 2014.

At December, people were still asking for 1.6 updates.

Guys heres something new

I have just bought a MPC Renaissance, updated the software to 1.6.......and.......

...wait for it......

....I....

.....Like it!!! :-D

Really happy with the software which I found was easier to use than say FL Studio 10 or Ableton when just getting into it and I think the hardware unit is well built and sturdy whilst still looking the part

Early days I suppose but I'm happy with it.

This could very well be the case, since Pete stated that the software update is basically is being rewritten.

From reading between the lines of Pete's Tweets, it sounds like they made some major changes, which needed some sort of a rewrite, and that they don't want to rush it through until they are sure it is working properly.

Pretty much.
Per usual, I can't comment to when we're going to release it.
But we're working hard at it :-D

The device is good and well built. The software is where it's at, thou the workflow is quick. In the line of MPC's it has its awkwardness. And audio channels are missing so, you have to track them out to another DAW. This option too is not very flexible (in midi and sound).
