Damn it I also bought one of these so-called SD card readers from this ebay seller pro_oem_stereo not too long ago and it did NOT work for me. Also what the seller does NOT tell you is that the sd card reader is NOT HOT SWAP. I do NOT know why I bought this SD card reader and paid more money. I should have stuck to compact flash cards which I know work. These cf cards are still available contrary to what pro_oem_stereo claims. There is another ebay seller that sells ONLY hot swap compact flash card readers and for LESS MONEY! All I had to do was switch to 1.14 operating system on my mpc2000xl and use up to 16gb cf cards and be able to swap. Damn it!! I could not get my money back.

Anyway, I thought would vent and warn other users before buying from this guy.

With the MPC2000 classic, you need an external SCSI drive.

You would need a SCSI to IDE bridge, to use it with an IDE card reader, and they would have to be mounted in an external SCSI case.

Or use a SCSI card reader, in an external case.

Or reroute the external SCSI port on the MPC to make it an internal SCSI port, and use either of the above options internally within the MPC, instead of in an external case.

those scsi to ide bridges are expensive nowadays. i remember when they were 30 dollars each about 2-3 years ago. so, to use a scsi to ide bridge with ide card reader to make a drive is possible but it will only be a no hot swap cf drive. If you are going to spend that kind of money you should consider getting an external hot swap cf drive for your mpc2000 (os1.72).

you could do as Simon mentions, create an internal scsi port using the external scsi port instead of using an external port, but you better know what you are doing. i actually did a mod by transitioning from 25 pins to 50 pins using different components. it was a bit of a pain in the *ss especially in how tight the space was inside the mpc2000. again, if you are not familiar or not comfortable with modifications and connecting the drive for power (using a multimeter to check mpc2000 voltage), then just make sure your external scsi port works and stick to external cf drive. just my opinion.

If you use a compatible hot swap IDE/ATAPI card reader, with a SCSI-IDE/ATAPI bridge, it will be hot swap.

Most of the external hot swap CF drives are probably using that, in an external case, unless it is using an actual SCSI CF reader.

But yes, changing an the external SCSI port on an MPC2000 classic, to be internal, is not easy and straight forward.

He is using it with an MPC2000 classic, which has no internal SCSI or IDE/ATAPI drive connectors.

Your MPC2000XL has both internal SCSI and IDE/ATAPI drive connectors, so it much easier to get an internal CF reader working with it.

An internal IDE/ATAPI reader would be the easiest/best/cheapest way to go, if you want an internal reader.

An IDE-CF card reader/adapter will be non-hot swap, and cheap, but if you can find an IDE/ATAPI CF card reader, that is compatible with the MPC2000XL, it will allow hot swapping, but will probably be more expensive.

http://www.addonics.com/products/adidecf.php

What would you say?

id say lemme call them back and see if theyve shipped yet
i ordered last month and they havent shipped yet
but the mgr sez they got them in stock today so a priority order will go out tomorrow

ill be lettin yall know as soon as i do if the thing works so i can get to work

ive got all new buttons, slider, and 2 spare encoders from mouser but only a flaky three and a half drive at the moment, so im waiting to test this sd reader before replacing all 40 little switches, the half dozen big ones, the nastsy note variation slider...

funny enough the audio pots still sound fine

Hello all,
I am the seller of these drives. I can verify that they do work. Please see the pictures of the MPC2000XL attached to the listing, These pictures were taken with these components hooked up to our shop MPC2000xl using ver.1.2, I do not hide the fact that these are not hot swap, You do not need the hot swap feature unless you are using it live. These cards are 8gb. That is plenty of space for any project.
I only advertise and sell compatible drives. Every drive is built and tested by me personally. See for yourself, I have the highest Feedback ratings, communication and best customer service of any of my competitors on Ebay. These are the facts.
This buyer found these hot-swap drives after he bought this drive from me and wanted to return it. He said "I dont think anything is wrong with it, i just decided to take a different route.. thanks though, "(direct quote) This was a clear case of buyers remorse. His drive works fine. In fact, The pictures of the Drive being recognized on the MPC2000xl in the listing is his drive(the first one I built).
He claimed after that (less than one hour later) it did not work and he has found others with the same drive that said the same( I have only sold one of these) among many other false claims. He then tried to open a case in Paypal saying he never received the package. Paypal or Ebay would not back him because of the lies.
My advice is that: If you are going to take some ones advice make sure that that person is not a complete liar.
Check my feedback, I have sold thousands of drives and helped many musicians(even a few national acts). This buyer has a feedback rating of 4.... Yes 4...
If anyone has any questions with any of my drives, Please contact me on Ebay. Thanks, Joe

There seem to be a couple of buyers of your drives, other than productions, saying they do not work.

How about 1thought1's SD card reader?

We have been trying to talk him through the problem, and it seems he has it hooked up correctly, and still seems to not be working.

Check his thread here...

oldskl1 said he was having a problem with one of your hard drives, but at least it seems he is being sent a replacement, in this thread...

Hot swap is useful so you can save your work onto a couple of memory cards, as a backup, or if you want to keep a second card separate to your main card, as a computer transfer card, and not put your main card into a computer reader.

@MidiMusicHaven
Can you please reply to my message on ebay? ive replied to you twice now and it seems you are avoiding me.. i don't want something that doesnt work and am not wiling to upgrade my version since it didnt say on the listing that it needed to be a certain version. Please give me my 250 dollars back so i could send back your card reader.

this is so true! well said.

in my humble opinion hot swap is the most ideal version drive. it makes my work much easier. i have worked with both hot swap and non hot swap. with non hot swap (cf or sd) you cannot back up a second card or keep a second card separate to your main card as a computer transfer card without having to power down the drive to remove the card and insert a new card.
