Issues with free jjOS after sent for repair

I sent my MPC1000 off to get repaired (some technical issue i couldnt figure out) and now that I have it back it operates differently. Im not sure that if through the repair process the OS got switched back to the Akai OS or not. All my files are still on my hard drive but loading is really weird and the trim function is different. If anyone could help me out that would be awesome

Not much to go with there - please explain exactly what you mean by 'TRIM is different' and 'loading is weird'. More details the better.

yea thats true, my fault. When i go to load up a program it used to be laid out with "Load from:" and i would choose hard disk because that's where all my files are. that part used to be on the left side of the screen with all the programs on the right that i could scroll through to find what i wanted. now its more horizontal in a sense with the seperation of the source being at the top of the screen and the files at the bottom. I wish i could explain this part better. for the trimming it says "chop shop" which it never said before. and the most frustrating part is the fact the data wheel takes more turns to the right to change anything. idk if im doing a good job of explaining this all

what do it say when you turn it on

it just says MPC1000 (128 mb installed)

then you need to reinstall jjos free

Yep, sounds like it's been set back to Akai OS - just load up JJOS again.

That said, you shouldn't have those data wheel issues running Akai OS (where one unit data change requires three or four data wheel clicks). It sounds like they may have replaced the data wheel for you, but there are two different data wheel encoders available and you have to use the correct one based on the year of manufacture of your MPC1000. I suspect they've used the wrong one.

JJOS free may fix this as there's the option in the OTHER screen to select data wheel type - just change this to 1 or 2, whichever one fixes it.

As the data wheel encoder seems to have changed and the original OS was replaced, I'm wondering what kind of repair they've done? Have they swapped out the main board? What problems were you originally having before you sent it off for repair? Who repaired it - Akai or an authorised service center?

when i would turn it on it the screen would just stay blank. the place i sent it to was an authorized service center and they replaced the main board, did some soldering and cleaning.

Okay, swapping out the main board would explain why JJOS disappeared.

Still regardless, the data wheel should NOT be acting like that in Akai OS - it should be 1 click = 1 data unit change. As I say, it sounds like an encoder type mis-match - an authorized service center should be more on the ball about these things.

Try installing JJOS free again, see if that resolves it by setting the data wheel type in OTHER, but ultimately bear in mind that in theory it sounds like they have not repaired this properly and it may affect resale value.

if someone wants to run akai os that is, which is a piece of doo doo anyway. sounds like it wont matter if you are using jjos (2xl--its the only one im aware of that lets you switch between encoder types).

I believe all JJOS versions allow you to switch data wheel type, I think it used to be just MPC1000 but I seem to remember reading that the MPC2500 version now has it on some versions? Can't keep up with all the different JJOS versions these days, not enough spare brain cells.

But regarding the fact that the data wheel isn't working properly in the 'official' (factory) OS after coming back from a repair at an authorised service centre - TBH that's not ideal, and I would argue that it hasn't been repaired properly.

If you sent your car off for a repair because the headlights were faulty and after getting it back the power steering wasn't working, you'd send it straight back.

ok, so im trying to load up the free jjos again and keep in mind ive never done this before because i bought it with the jjos already installed. ive got a macbook pro (OS X 10.9.1) so i downloaded their mac version of the file and it says the contents of this file cant be extracted, and when i connect my mpc to the mac with the usb, like the instructions say, my mac says "the disk you inserted was not readable by this computer." its pretty frustrating, any thoughts on this cuz i just want this shit back on my sampler lol

the .bin file you download from http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/ is already the file you need. DON'T do anything to it but place it to the CF card, but first... format the CF card to MS DOS format (fat32).

If you have the card connected to your mac:
Go to Disk Utility on your mac (Applications -> Utilities -> Disk Utility) and choose the card and click erase with MS DOS format.

If you have the card on the mpc:

You can format the memory card.
Please note that if you format the card, all the data in the card will be deleted.

01. Press the [MODE] key and then the [PAD 2] (LOAD) or the [PAD 3] (SAVE).
02. Press the [F3] (UTILIT) key. The Utility page will be displayed.
03. Press the [F6] (DO IT) key. The CAUTION window will be displayed.
04. Press the [F5] (DO IT) key. The MPC1000 will start formatting the card
