JJ OS 3 : Enormous problem with formatting Hard Drive!

Hi,

I purchased an AKAI HDM10 adaptater in order to add a Hard drive to my mpc 1000. Whenever i try to format it with the mpc, it says "System Error". I can't write/ save anything on it.
My Operating System is the JJ OS 3 (I bought the password & can save on it), and i tried with every OS.
The Hard Drive is recognized by the MPC (Toshiba M4026GAX and/or Hitachi Travelstar, both 40 Gigs), i can read "Hard Drive Free Memory :38210 Mb ", but when i want to save, it says" saving sample" and then "System error".
When i try to create a new folder, it says "FAT error" (I also tried to format the hard drive on a computer and made it after lots of difficulties).
I tried the HDM10 kit on another MPC 1000 and ... it worked perfectly. After saving a few samples, a program and a sequence in a folder, on the hard drive, in the other MPC, i put the Hard Drive back in mine, and load the folder... It worked!

BUT, when i tryied to save, the same "System Error" appeared. I don't know what to do... Thank you for your answers!

check all internal cable connections. this means open the unit up

Thanks for the answer!I opened it today, before writing the previous message and noticed that a flat cable was folded in half. I'll reopen it this evening and re-check all internal cables connected to the hard drive. I think i'll unplugg them and replug them. Hope it will work.

you can fold ribbon cables with no ill effect unless you overdo it or they constantly flex. your best bet is the connections. be extremely careful with the connectors!

Good to know! . . . So, i opened the unit, and unplugged the fat flex cable connected to the PCB Board HD assembly (carefully), re-plugged it. It still won't save or load Do you think the cable is dead, or the pcb board?

did you redo both ends of the connection?

another problem could be the age of your power supply or an intermittent power connection or even 'dry solder' connections as pointed out by a guy in another thread.

SSDs use way less current and wont create a drop out and an error like yours presumably is. if your drive is 7200 rpm then it may be drawing too much current. go with a 5200 rpm or lower if you intend to stick with conventional HDD. otherwise SSD is superior in shock resistance, susceptibility to magnetic fields, power consumption, heat generation, spin up noise, data access rates (wont make diff here tho)

Or just use a big CF card

Thanks for your advices! I think i'll buy a 2.5" Hard drive to CF Adapter and a BIG CF card. The maximum capacity of the MPC 1000 is 130 gigs ? Has anyone tried a 128 gis (looks expensive )( or 32 or 64 gigs) CF card with the SSDs ?
