alright fellas

Sample:
http://www.sendspace.com/file/7mua1w

submit tracks by friday midnight your time. i will post vote thread sat morning.

Rules: No outside synth.
Outside Bass ok
No Accapellas, vocal drops ok.
outside drums ok

this is a mix and master session. for this battle all battles need to be mixed and mastered by you. this is most of our week points. In this game generally we would have others mix and master our work. {in a finally made it to the majors way} i know some of you do mix but i want the last decision on choosing your favorite track is to judge the mix.

example:
if my track is the best banger out the bunch but my mix is wack, and bojangles track is second best but his mix is perfect. then he should get your vote

after you post your track in the thread explain your mix chain and master technique. that way we can bounce ideas of each other and learn some new tricks.

hope this will inspire some clean sounding tracks and help broaden our skills as producers.

peace and have fun

I am totally gobsmacked that any one farms out there beat battle to be mastered. I just assumed we all do it ourselves. When I vote I do consider how it sounds, because to me that is the skill set that is needed to make beats. I don't mean it has to be totally pro but at least sound good, and don't think it is that hard to do, so am very surprised that anyone needs help to make a beat sound good. I dont even usually master my stuff as I mix down live, cept lately now I have a SPDIF from 4 track to computer and do some little master polishing. :hmmm:
I got some CDJs at the moment so will be doing a different workflow just cos I can so this will be good fun. Bring it bitches

I know PK doesn't mean people sending their beat battles to get mastered, he's created a window a platform this week for all of us to learn some new skills, Mastering isn't about making the beat sound good, you can't polish a turd, it's about the finish the overall vibe, and to get that you need to get the mix right, I for one can not wait for us all to discuss what we did what we learnt, and what will become part of your workflow.

When PK says "In this game generally" he does not mean beat battles he is talking about making music, and yes most musicians find someone to mix and master, how many bands do you know that record produce and mix and master their albums, I can only think of 2 the guy that mastered dark side of the moon by pink floyd, and a metal band called Pantera, I really don't know of anyone else. We got to start asking what others mean rather than deciding we know what someone is talking about, then going off on one when its not what was being said.

Peace !!!

Not sure why you two have a problem grasping this. If you really "do listen" to the beats you would hear the ailments of sound quality real fast.

Nobody here sends there beat battle track off to be mastered not sure how your brain even thought something like that. Read, then Read some more. Not just the post. But so me books. Comprehension is a important part of your intelligence level. That and common sense. And I'm not seeing either right now.

I don't think my tracks are that great on the mix. I can admit that. Allot of you think you can mix. Some of you think a compressor or limiter on the master is a mix. Or a master.

For the few confused kats in this world.... There is much to be learned in all aspect of life. And just cause you have been banging on pads or drawing beats in ableton for three to five years think you know how to mix well you don't and your track shows it. I'm not going to pull name and make examples, but if I need to turn my computer up 5 db to hear your song after listening to let's say a saadyah or dizastas tracks well....OR I need to turn it down cause you have laid a brick and the bass is way to loud. Cause you have compressed the shit out of it. Not a quality mix.

And no I don't expect you to write a paragraph explaining your "tricks" just explain briefly how you mixed and your master chain. That info alone will help bring new ideas and understanding of such a difficult task. Specially for kats not using the "platinum" sound banks they downloaded. Sample heads that sample all usually don't have the best sounding samples and learning how to balance the frequencies can go along way.

I'd hope all heads are judging sound quality while they vote. But I'd like this session to focus that direction primarily. Meaning it could be a damn country western song. If it sounds like Kramer mixed it then it's the winner. Most of us vote on what song we like the most. Not how great it's quality is. I see that most of the votes are chosen on ones taste for hip hop. Cats that bring un hiphop tracksusuallygo somewhere else after a couple session of not getting vote even though their blippity tehno stuff had real nice sound quality.

If you don't want to play don't.

means to me that most are not done by you. I can comprehend BTW, no need to get your knickers in a twist, and I know what mastering means. :WTF:
And what if, like me, hardly masters the beat? only last two have had any, if any mastering done, as I mix live down to two track. Sounds ok to me, as I like to sound good live is all. So I guess you just want to know how I mix? I can do that.

yeah its been plain as day when i did the first few BBs that if it aint hip hop its not gonna get much of a vote.

My vote is swayed a little by finished production quality, but prefer to focus on how it was flipped. It gets boring when its just a beat over a sample so like something a bit more creative, and try to do that myself.

Its starts to get a bit subjective and its about the loudness wars when you decide what is too loud or not. 5 dB is a lot though, like half as loud or quiet, depending on what dB scale you are using, as you should know. So figure you are exagerating a little here, but know what you mean of course.

all good.

word so put it down and lets make this a learning experiance for all. You may have many techniques that some of us have never seen or thought of.

my real point to this session is that almost every battle someone pipes up about how fun it was and the learning experienced he got out of the battle. and thats when we are just trying to out do each other and make a "banger".

i thought since this is a friendly kind of enviroment. and most of us get along well with each other and i feel that there is actually allot of respect about each others tracks bouncing around in here. most other are always willing to step up and explain or help a fellow "battle foe".

most of you have such different styles of cooking up your tracks that it would be sick as hell if we could all get together for a weekend. Drink, puff and make beats. bounce ideas off each other. most of us are from different countries. and this is why i love the net. i don't face book. never have. this {mpc-forum}is the most i ever do the online social thing. but there is so much to learn and so many people to learn from.

so back to the beats. if I'm going to get a mix done ill need to get a track done asap.

peace

Really don't like language, too many literal people take things figuratively and the other way round.

It's the end of the world as we know it,

Now .... does that mean things will change, or a complete end, same thing going on in here.......to me it means.....it's that opinion thing all over again, it's all good but you got to be right.

I'm still waiting for Jedi smilie to be invented for moments like this.

My approach has always been the drunken monk just have fun approach.I have no plans to get too serious about beats.I do this for the culture and for my own satisfaction.Nothing wrong with getting better though, and mastering is an important aspect. But my aim is to nod heads(II) above ALL.

You can almost do most "mastering" in the machine IMO.
Most of your treble, bass, mid and filter tweaks.

The only thing I would imagine needing is that thousand dollar compressor or something.

Thats whats awesome about the MPC IMO especially with JJ,
you can get almost everything done at the house and spend an hour or two on Vocs studio time.

Same theory with the fruity loops beats,
but we're better obviously.
