Hey I am trying to use a rack mount synth (E-mu xtreme lead-1) with my mpc1000 (jjos) so I can play the synth on the pads over a beat and record it all on the mpc.

I got it so I can play the synth using the pads but I don't know how to record that over a beat in the mpc.

As far as connections... So I go midi out of the mpc to the midi in of the e-mu and then midi out of the e-mu back to the midi in of the mpc?

or do I go..... midi out of the mpc to the midi in of the e-mu then e-mu main out into the mpc record in?

Then what steps do I have to do in the machine?

I am looking for a detailed step by step answer, I have the manual and have been watching youtube videos but can't find out how to do it.

thanks :hmmm:

Are you trying to record the pads sending MIDI to the Emu, into a sequence in the MPC, with the audio still coming out of the Emu?

Or have you worked that out, and now want to record the audio coming out of the Emu, back into the MPC, as a sample, to make that audio play out of the MPC instead of the Emu?

MPC MIDI OUT >> E-MU MIDI IN
E-MU AUDIO OUT >> MPC RECORD IN (only if you are wanting to use your audio tracks in your MPC to record the audio from your E-MU)

Good.... NAO....

MPC TRACK 1 SET TO MIDI
SWITCH TO MIDI CHANNEL YOU WISH TO PLAY FROM YOUR E-MU (A01, for instance)

PLAY PADS on TRACK 1 (SET TO MIDI A01), you will now be triggering what ever sound(s) are assigned to MIDI channel A01 on your E-MU.

PRESS PLAYSTART (hear your sweet beat?)
PLAY YOUR PADS ON TRACK 1 (set to MIDI A01), once you found a line to record then
PRESS REC+PLAYSTART and play your pads as you desire

Your recorded notes should be in the MPC's sequencer and it should be blasting the E-MU at this point... you are now "in the biz" as they say outside of "the biz".

If you want to use your MPC's audio tracks to record the E-MU post back...

Word.

Set the MIDI mode to multi-mode, and you can setup a different sound on each of the 16 available MIDI channels, and play them from different MPC MIDI tracks assigned to those 16 MIDI channels.
