Low End Theory

any advice on this lads would be appreciated,,,,,when i duplicate tracks of a sample and filter out all but the bass this also affects my original track,,,so i end up going a very long way round to achieve what i need,,,what way do u guys do this technique on the ren,,,,in ableton for instance its just a matter of duplicating a track and away u go the effects dont also affect ure original track,,,,,,any tips

Copy the sample. New track, duplicate sample

ok thanks,,just still bit unsure,,, say i have my sample choped up and played into a 4 bar loop...can i duplicate this track and filter it without affecting the original track its on....to enhance the bass

Right click on the program itself, duplicate the PROGRAM First..u get another program with a -1 behind It, then copy Your track, and in the track change and select that other program (the-1) now u have a duplicate of Your program (u can edit/tweak/change affecting the Original one) while copied the pattern, of Your original program, so u don't have to re-create that...
now filter the **** out of the -1 program, and combine it with your original one... (I did it with that hard loungin beat) hope this helps keep banging them beats Celtic..

yep, this is the method as long as you aren't doing any sample editing. If you need to edit the samples you'd want to make copies of the samples themselves first.

It can be done from the hardware too BTW (if I remember correctly) . Highlight the program from the main page and hit the window button...I think it will give you an option to duplicate the program from there.

Put me right here but don't you still need to make a new -1 copy of the sample for the new program because the Ren can only play the same sample once at a time (mono timbral)?

I don't think that's the case, If you switch a pad from mono to poly (and the program is set to poly as well) you can hit a pad really fast over and over and it will keep layering that same sound/single sample on top of it's self. So if you can do it on a single pad I'm sure you can between programs as well.

Ah, I didn't realize that I could just duplicate PROGRAM and TRACK!
I know it is for MPC Ren, but you can do the same on MPC-2000XL (and other MPCs, except MPC-2000 classic, MPC-3000 and MPC-60.)
I used to copy PAD to an other PAD within PROGRAM, then painstakingly update the parameters on TRACK on the duplicated TRACK.
