MIDI Problems w/ MPC 1K. Or Misunderstanding...?

I tried to jam out with a friend last night with my MPC 1K and his Elektron Analog4.
Not too sure why... but we were having the HARDEST time getting these two boxes to play nicely together.

When he was slaved to me, some of his knobs started controlling parameters that they aren't linked to... at all. When we pressed "stop", all of his encoders operated as they should have. Not sure if this was an issue directly related to his synth, I think it is for what ever reason.

When we slaved the MPC 1K to his Analog4, we quickly found out that we could no longer create music organically because if we were in-play, I couldn't add notes to the patterns/sequences I was creating on the MPC. When we were stopped I could, of course but this sucked ass because then I wasn't jamming WITH what he was doing. This became very frustrating.

What is the best way to use the MPC in a MIDI situation to create music ORGANICALLY while jamming with another person manning their own instrument(s)? Last night was a huge pain in the ass and, after a few hours, we did minimal jamming. Hoping to be able to avoid this next time. I was always under the guise that the MPC was very MIDI-friendly, so I'm having a hard time understanding why I cannot overdub notes while I'm slaved to another unit's MIDI clock. Seems... strange to say the least.

Any help with this would be amazing!

After reading over the manual, I realized that I learned nothing in the ways of fixing this "problem". Is this a limitation of the MPC 1K?
Not being able to add notes while in-play and synced to another MIDI clock is a huge buzz kill and for some reason I just don't think that is how this goes down. Is there a JJOS that has this feature?

I want to be able to MIDI sync (just clock & transport, master or slave), and while all synced boxes are playing, be able to add notes to or create new sequences without having to stop all the boxes at the same time just to add some hats or something.

This seems backwards to me that, at least in my understanding, the MPC 1K will not allow me to add notes while I'm slaved. Very strange.

I tried doing this via the pads and what I did was set to record/play and then started the other device and it was recording my input.But for the price of an mcp1000 it has some huge holes.

Im using OS 3 and I can over dub as it plays so that solves most of your problem but only on new tracks and you have to mute old ones really instead of changing sequences.

I have had MIDI problems too. try updating your OS to the latest version. JJ stays pretty consistent with fixing bugs and adding features every several months.

@medearis did you ever solve this problem? I'm also wondering how to do this.

JJOS will respond to MIDI CCs, so simply turn of midi CC reception in the midi monitor window. That will stop the MPC responding to the CCs. Also press overdub and play at same time when playing to enter record mode. Works for me

I just started having an issue where the mPC is sending an sequence to an external instrument but it will not play out the whole sequence only part of it and then the rest is kind of random. Im using jjos 5
