I use takes and I use audio tracks for different things and when I use an audio track sometimes it is long and I want to do a take of a bar or two from some long sequence. But in song mode you have no ability to use sequence loop points at all. It would be good if the loop points of a sequence could be applied to the sequence list in song mode. It needs toggle on/off so it ignores it like now, or song mode plays sequences loop points with same options for how many.
So you can layer stuff and pull out bars as exact takes or copy sequences and use song mode to play different parts if they have different loops points.
What you think.

Hi,
I have a different workflow. I don't use song mode much. I think an " extract" function for audiotracks could do one part of the job. For instance we could extract an audiotrack from bar 10 to bar 12 inside a sequence. And then create a shorter sequence.

There's something missing between audiotracks, trim mode and sequence bars lenght.

In OS3, the tempo function is really nice but in this case it can't help much.

yep your on the right track  that is what I am doing.

Yeah the take function is great, but if I need to use it with audio tracks i can not use it to play one part like in main screen. So I have to resample it from main out and use the loop points to get part I want. The take function is what I would use to get a tight resample but if you use audio tracks it wont let you chop it out from audio sample as the take function in song mode ignores loop points.

so I get what you mean and think that the missing link is in song mode and the take function. The take function is made for this, but ...... it wont see loop points and so takes from audio tracks can not be done like a take. normally you can just cut and paste those bars out to another sequence to resample in song mode with a take. You can solo or do main out so its handy for the people reading this besides le rat. But if you use an audio track and cut and paste some middle bars it wont work as audio track has lost its length.

So to get around this the song take mode needs to see loop points of sequence. right there it would mean you can sample main outs of anything. Even if it has to play from start and in realtime to get to that punch in point. I could live with that, but in main screen it does not need to. Audio track stays in time when you start from middle of sequence.

yeah so if it works in main screen then it should be able to be made to work in take mode to. That would be amazing though, to resample audio tracks at any point. But the difference is in take mode it would NOT loop. So yeah works the same but then ignores the loop after first take recorded from the sequence and audio track you want.

It would give us punch in / punch out resample function from audio tracks = **** cool

ok request is in, but not sure if they get it as it is a bit esoteric but hopefully they get what I am saying.

Just a on/off toggle function when doing TAKES in song mode seems most simple way to bring main screen sequence loop point behaviour with audio tracks to the recording environment. But this has to NOT loop so the TAKE done in SONG mode is just what is set with the sequence loop points to make a TAKE of the AUDIO TRACK or what ever you resample. The last part is just as important. We want to extract loop points of audio tracks in a sequence only once and not let it loop, which would make the TAKE useless.
:-?

its really simple but it is long winded explanation to name all the parts of the OS that are related. It seems like I am rambling but I have to mention them or its wont make sense.

The more I think about it the more I want it. Would be great to be able to resample parts of a long sequence. This request would also mean less steps in workflow to as I would not have to copy bars of a sequence first to do a take of them from a longer sequence to. Just resample with a take in song mode instead using loop points set to the bars you want you would have copied to do a take before this request.

It has to be able to turn off though cos if you want to make a song with sequences you will want to do it as normal and not use loop points. So a toggle maybe in take mode in the song screen.

I think every one will like it when they use it and see how it can be very useful co it gives resample punch in punch out and gives exact bar or what ever.

I haven't had time to read everything carefully yet but I'd like to drop other ideas.

They say OS3 is based on a fresh code so it's probably time to do something efficient to improve audiotracks.

I've had a look at the online manual to see if there is different specs compared to OS2XL.

There's still that note : "Audio track is can not convert in song mode. (Only the audio track contained in the sequence of STEP 1 is converted)" That makes me think that a feature request that has something to do with song mode will be rejected.

In "a perfect world" there should be a relationship with audiotracks/program/trim and main screen. A bit like looper mode in os2xl but it is a partial failure.

Anyway, regarding punch in / punch out I think something could be done thanks to PAD LOCATE.

I'm sure almost no one use this function.

So for instance we could have let's say pad 7 for IN point and pad 8 for OUT point.
After having set these points we would press PLAY and when the sequencer reaches the IN point it would launch the recording till the OUT point.
Combined with the ability of recording MAIN OUT it could be a workaround for the "EXTRACT" function mentioned above.
