Voted Obi.
Even though it sounds like it's being played down a telephone line.. it's original.

I also very nearly voted for emwu23.

I voted for Kzee Beatz, that loop is real nice and the acapella fits the beat well. The mix sounds good to me too!

Hello everyone.

I have been lurking on this forum for many years since 2008 and it helped me a lot.
That was my first ever attempt to any beat battles.
Most of my stuff I have been doing on Mpc1000 - JJos2xl.
At the begining of this year I bought an Octatrack and for this battle
I have done all the mix in it :levels ,filtering and subtle reverb on the sample.
My chain was the following:
-few beers
-vintage warmer
-c1 compressor
-stereo enhancer
-reverb
-master q
-limiter

The beats from the battle I liked:
KappNeffect - hipnotizing
mike-a-veli - smooth
Obi-Dan-Kenobi - the most interesting
My vote goes to Kzee Beatz - the best sound

Chain:

-Ear warm-up, to some good music
-Chop up parts i like
-Asign each sound to its own channel.
-EQ sounds to taste
- Add reverb and stereo effects where needed
-Master bus: Limiter, Multiband compressor

Forgot to mention:
-Pitching of vocals
-Filter + Mementory fx (glitching) automation on master

Rule should be: "If you enter then you also gotta vote and say in the thread who you voted for".

11 entries and 7 votes :Sigh:

I don't care about "winning" this because it's obvious that tastes vary so wildy across the globe, but it's just lame that entrants aren't even voting.

Agree 110%... i can understand if it once in a blue-moon that someone forgets or is just too busy, but still if you make an effort making the beat at least vote too. This helps paint a better picture of what music is preferable and at the same time a guide to ones progress chart.

Could one of the Moderators please initiate the next battle with which ever rules you feel and also upload a sample as i dont own any Vinyls/recording hardware to sample HQ audio formats. Thanks in advance!

I'm down obi.

ok. this new timeline has me fuked up. i didn't get to vote. i was working all end of week and weekend didn't have time to lay down anything.

my mix chains are very similar to kzee. i usually put filters on most of tracks. that or eq's. so i can place the frequency in spectrum where i want it. each sound has a certain place in my mixes. if I'm having a hard time with making a break sound right i will try a couple things.

add my own kicks and snares over the brk. or try to send it to a aux for some Waves SSL love. if none of that works i fade the brk out to be my ghost notes and main groove. and then put my own drums over for main break.

i usually keep waves frequency analyzer on main while making tracks. so i can see where my sound is at all times. i have been doing all my mix in the Ren. and then just bouncing out a stereo track for submissions. I'm not really messing with putting stems in a daw. unless i want efx and scratches. on the main. i usually just put the Kramer Tape for magic glue and if needed a slight boost with ozone 5. just started learning the new ozone so i keep it subtle.

so if i may comment on a couple tracks.

Obi? what happened the whole bottom end fell off. nice track though.

jimmie r4ar. id love to see your studio. all outboard gear. sounds good. i would have added a little in the 11500hz but thats me. and you came out of a sp1200... nuff said.

twisted very dope groove. when you boosted the sample you brought up the white noise a little to much. its not bad but it would have bugged me. very nice track

boof nice subtle track. not sure what your using for verb but look for a high/low frequency. so that the verbs tail is a little brighter. you don't have much high end in there.

kzee all around dope. i personally would have put a little low pass on the vocal. just to round the sharpness of that pitch up. dope track man.

kapp i always like your sound. this is a dark track. i would have done some more work to the drums. just give more movement in track. i dig their groove. but i would have added a lil verb on the snare and hats. and added a few ghost notes. the kik swings like a fukin champ though. nice track my man.

not sure if its my mood but i was really diggin on OskarrOnWax the grove hooked me.
def one of the worst mixed track but thats why we are doing this. i didn't see you post your chain. but id assume you put a compressor on the master and tried to get your whole track to gain in volume. the sounds you picked for drums are perfect nice filter on kik. but the sample is squashed so hard that there is crazy floor noise in there. scratches sounded great. sounds like you got a high pass on scratches. i would have done same.

so i liked your (oskarr} track most but for mix and groove i have to say kzee. next best mix to me was jimmie. dope track.

and i apoligize for stating the vote would go up sat. i didn't pay attention to main rules.

obi let me know what you want to do and ill follow suit.

sorry i didn't get to comment on everyone tracks. time.. is getting harder and harder to keep up with lately.

good work everyone.

Obi-Dan-Kenobi wrote:Well I ran my track through the zoom sampletrack to get some grit, and boom low end just walked, so did the side, need to look into it, it's not like running it through the 303 or 404 and pressing the stereo button, back to the drawing board with that tactic.

:P sheit happens

yo, I missed the voting because the bank holiday messed up my head, today woke up thinking "ok lets listen these bangas and drop a few words on some ppl" and the voting was already closed :/

Please accept my apologies.

My vote would have to go to r4ar for the tune sounds truly original in its whole. Creative composition, arrangement mix and master. ie love the way the vocals sound in your face, then are spread to the back.
