Wierd Digital Sounding Feedback Noises (MPC2000)

Hey all,

Well, I got my MPC2000 (not XL) from a friend just a week ago (and man am I loving it).

Thing is, every so often I get a sort of digital feedback noise come up in volume, underneath the drums that I have sequenced in on playback.

It can be all good for a while, then come in lightly for 20-30 secs, then go for a bit, then come in quite loudly for another 10secs.

As, I don't know what the cause is yet, I can't seem to get it to happen so that I can find out how to stop it.

I did do a search in this forum, but found nothing within quite a few pages that was remotely related.

Just to point out here that the REC GAIN is off and there is nothing pluged in the Recording inputs.

Any help would be SO gratefull.

Another thing to point out is that it isn't like it happens very frequently.

It can go for like an hour before it happens a couple of times, then stops for another half hour.

(hope I'm explaining myself alright).

Even though this doesn't sound extremely memory-related, try the basics first.....open up the machine and make sure the memory is properly and securely seated in the expansion slots, and while you're inside the machine, make sure all your other connections are good too. Also, do you have the 8-out board, and if so is it doing the same thing on the 8-outs, or just on the stereo master pair?

Well. it looks like the problem could have been a corrupt 1.72 Start Up disk.

I've gone back to the 1.50 Disk that I was originaly given (and the one that the previous owner had used since new), and it has given me a problem yet.

Must have done something wrong from downloading 1.72 to putting it on the disk.

Anyways, fingers crossed this is the problem.

I actually posted a forum about that same problem not too long ago...but the reason why i was getting the sound was because my memory wasnt installed corectly......i opened the board back up and re-installed it and it hasnt happened since....

just make sure you sample that crazy a$$ noise before you fix the problem, at least you might get something good out of this whole ordeal
