Definitely worth a try since snap to zero, zero finding etc wasn't on many older samplers and would give more freedom trim points.

Would also explain why some users consistently have the problem while others don't since the software would be regulating the points without you knowing it.
Add that to the difference in what we chop, how we chop it and you could easily get some pretty consistent issues.

DC offset is a very likely problem based on the description people are giving and it's actually quite common when recording audio. I'm putting that out there so we can make an attempt to see if it's causing the issue or not.
If there is clicking/popping when you've located a "zero" crossing it's highly likely that there is an issue with sample not having a proper zero, hence the idea that DC offset could be the issue.

unfortunately the people with the problem have too much consistency for it to be DC Offset.

Sounds like you don't want anybody else in here trying to help, you got this... it's all yours man :worthy:

Glad you ruled out that it's definitely not DC offset because " it's consistent between people".. .I can't refute that.

Don't you think maybe there could be a consistent problem with DC leaking onto an audio line in the hardware? well I guess not, you've already ruled it out.

have fun sorting out the problem, I'm sure you guys will resolve that it's the software developers problem(whether it is or not)......I'm out.

Stop whinning, it's not DC Offset.
Not sure why you are so hooked on that path.

Upload some examples of samples, and maybe MPC Programs, that have the popping in them, to something like dropbox, so others can have a look at them.

we can all flip something with these samples and post our results and computer specs

Facts and evidence, this sounds like a proper troubleshooting method

Don't worry Funky I'm done arguing logic to a brick wall (I'm sure the other person feels the same) , lets get some audio files that are prone to the issue and see what we can figure out.

When I use mpc-ren sound card & soundflowerbed to internal sampling. Always begins with a crackling / popping. When I use my other external sound card and sampling internal or loopback, this problem does not exist. Anybody else with this problem?

nope.

no pops and clicks in maschine...

we're trying to get to the bottom of the popping drama. either people are getting pops because they're not chopping on the zero crossing, or because of dc bias, or because of stereo samples with zero crossings that don't line up....

OR it really is a software issue, which remains to be seen until someone suffering from this problem posts a program that exhibits the clicks.

if the problem is the first one, it can't be helped except by using the ADSR amp envelope, and it's a problem that all samplers suffer from unless they put a short attack slope on every sample automatically (as some users suspect older mpcs did)

if the problem is the second one it's probably a bug caused by renaissance software, seemingly effecting mostly Mac users.

Once in a while in Maschine, a little nudge of the zero crossing and it disappears.

In MPC software when I slice I get it pops a little more than Maschine. If I chop/extract I don't get pops on the same sample.

Well if it is popping because of the zero crossing issue, I've found a good way to work around that within the mpc ren. All you have to do is use the linear fade in/fade out feature when you are trimming your sample. The trick is to edit only the area right before or at the very beginning of your sample. So for example, say you have a four second loop. I would use the zoom feature and the and q links to only edit the the 1st .001-.003 seconds of the sample. Then I would keep doing linear fade ins until I see that the both stereo images have lined up and thus no zero crossing, and then I would repeat that at the end of the loop with fade outs. This method eliminates all clicking and popping due to zero crossing issues and does not change or alter your sound like changing the attack does since the .001-.003 seconds is too short to be noticed by human ears.

As far as popping from other issues which I've gotten from time to time myself, I really don't know. For me it just happens randomly so it seems like a glitch.

Thanks for the insight. The fact that the popping just happens randomly is what bugs me the most. Even after I've eliminated the pop in trim mode or via attack...It will re-appear randomly in the sequence.
