TBH it's time for a fresh set of eyes and brains in this game, companies that will truly innovate.

Right. There's a third party operating system in JJOS. Why not a third party drum sampler that's essentially 100% like an MPC updated?

All in the box is alright - it does the job.

I went from hardware to all-in-the-box then re-bought an MPC and a few other bits as the fun factor wasn't the same and I felt my music had gone generic. I never even liked rack synths - preferred keyboards and drum machines that you just touch and they start making sounds as long as there's a speaker attached. The more hands on the better.

Haven't people been saying that for 20 years?

It's high time that internet speeds and allowed bandwidth was boosted.
Having my audio projects saved in the cloud? Nah. My ISP would hate my data usage, it would take hours to save my stuff... Not happening.

Security in the cloud? Nah. Every month I hear of a breach and everyone having to change their passwords or something.
If your data is online it is vunerable. No getting round that.

Jamming online?
Better make sure you're not trying to do it at peak times or when your neighbours decide to download or upload summat large, like their cloud data.

Dunno man.... This cloud revolution seems to be a long, long way away to me. Maybe in 20 years will the infrastructure be ready... But still no getting away from security issues.

With the current state of the American Tier 2 ISP physical infrastructure, this does seem like a far cry. But I believe as computing becomes rapidly even more available and efficient (as it always is doing), that in the somewhat near future the common ISP will be forced to overhaul their distribution systems to meet bandwidth demand imposed by increasingly cloud-distributed enterprise cluster virtualization.

This will most likely have a trickle down effect to the average consumer, where we will be offered fast, but simple fiber up links that converge upon fiber backbone that will be capable of throughput that is wider in orders of magnitude than what we have today.

And as far as security goes: hackers never sleep, but neither do the cryptographers that help to invent cutting edge protocols (they are often the same person  ).

I was exaggerating to a great extent. But some amazing things will be possible soon.

I would say that maybe things of that extreme nature aren't going to happen tomorrow, but it's probably closer than you think.

I thought we'd all be on fibre optic ten years ago.
I remember promises of fibre optic rollouts way back in 2001.
Still waiting

The credit crunch in 2008 didn't help matters I guess.

I actually disagree with you there.. I think it's further away than you think.
I see data access and bandwidth becoming more strict as governments restrict it to suit their monetising models and political endeavours.
They will be controlling it a lot harder in years to come.
We've now got governments locking down access to certain websites from your ISP. I can reach torrent sites from my ISP, but from my parents' ISP I get a 'web page blocked' message. That's only recently come into affect.

It can only get worse.
The underground will become larger... so it's also exciting.

Playing music with others over the internet, live, is always going to be limited by the amount of latency through the link.

Not sure that is going to drop to low enough levels, to allow live playing, any time soon.

I don't imagine that playing live via the internet will be feasible any time soon. I am very interested in ideas about networking and audio, and I think in the near future that more interesting tech will appear that will facilitate things like OSC over ethernet (or something similar) to a larger degree.

A good example would be Focusrite Rednet

http://us.focusrite.com/ethernet-audio-interfaces/rednet-4

Back then a lot of companies started laying down fiber all over as sort of a preparation for it's mass adoption. Now there is "dark fiber" all over the place that is barely used at all because of monetary & equipment constraints imposed by the top tier ISP's. It is all waiting to be taken advantage of. I definitely agree that the 2008 financial crisis and subsequent practices by ISPs & gov have made commonplace fiber to the home an even more distant reality. :(

Sorry if I am de-railing this thread. Carry-on gentleman.

BTW (no closet) is your name pronounced "SUCK D"? if so, wow...No shots[/quote]

Sorry for taking so long to respond to this. I need to add a new email address to this account. I use to go by Sukhdee and realized what it looks like. It's actually pronounced Sook which I would later change it to. Eventually I got sick of explaining myself and scrapped the whole thing. I think of creating a new account I honestly don't want to bother.

I am also thinking of buying a old MP for the sake of having one before I run out of chances. Does anyone know of a good place to repair old MPCs?

No need to make a new account, just pm Tutor and explain the situation with the name and he might change it for you. Many members have done it.

I need to fix my name too.
